Position Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a key role by acting as the bridge between the accounting team and financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, mentoring accounting staff, and participating in financial analysis. This position requires advanced technical accounting knowledge, familiarity with the unique financial aspects of gas compression, and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and analyze complex financial statements, ensuring they align with both GAAP and industry-specific standards.

  • Lead the reconciliation process for general ledger accounts, including accruals, prepaids, and intercompany accounts.

  • Manage the accounting for large capital projects, including the purchase, depreciation, and maintenance of compression units and related equipment.

  • Develop and maintain cost accounting models related to compressor unit rental, fuel consumption, and service contracts.

  • Mentor staff and intermediate accountants, providing guidance on industry-specific accounting practices and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial planning.

  • Analyze and report on the financial performance of gas compression operations, providing recommendations to senior leadership for cost control, process improvements, and revenue generation.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure the accuracy of financial records related to assets, liabilities, and operational costs.

  • Develop and implement best practices for accounting processes and financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. (Master’s degree or CPA preferred.)

  • 5+ years of accounting experience in the energy sector (experience with natural gas compression a plus).

  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., IFS, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, etc.).

  • Advanced understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, and cost accounting related to gas compression.

  • Strong knowledge of the natural gas industry, equipment, and associated financial processes.

  • Ability to interpret and apply complex accounting principles.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., macros, complex formulas).

  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
