Job Description
Full Stack Java Developer- Hybrid in Arlington, VA
Core Responsibilities**:**
As an Associate Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of modern web applications using Angular and Java Spring boot. Working as part of an agile engineering team, you will build user-facing features, develop backend services, and collaborate with senior engineers to deliver high-quality digital solutions. Your focus will be on writing clean, maintainable code, learning best practices, and growing your technical expertise across both frontend and backend development.
Your Impact:

Design, develop, test, and maintain Angular-based web applications.

Build and enhance Java Spring Boot, RESTful APIs.

Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and product teams to implement business requirements.

Develop responsive and accessible user interfaces using Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
-
Consume and integrate REST APIs into frontend applications.

Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality.

Troubleshoot and resolve application defects, bugs, and performance issues.

Write unit tests and support automated testing efforts.

Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment activities.

Follow established engineering standards, security guidelines, and development best practices.

Continuously learn new technologies and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Responsibilities
Eligibility criteria:
-
This U.S Federal role requires U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency and eligibility to obtain U.S. Government Public Trust clearance.

Candidates must be located within 30 miles of the Washington, DC area.
-
Willing to travel to the Sapient office (1515 North Courthouse Road Arlington, Virginia 22201 United States) or Client office with a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days per week onsite.
Roles hiring for:

Role# 1 (FE/Angular) — Preferred front-end developer. Angular experience preferred.

Role# 2 (FS/Java/Angular) — Preferred full stack. Solid java backend required. Frontend/Angular nice to have.

Role# 3 (FS/Python/Angular) — Preferred full stack. Solid python backend required. Frontend/Angular nice to have. AI/ML skills nice to have.

Java and Angular are not required for all roles as listed above.
Qualifications
Experience level:
-
1 to 3 years of professional experience.
-
These roles are Associate L1 and L2 level positions.
-
Experience with any major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
-
No microservices experience required.
-
Experience with backend and frontend is required.
-
Experience with Python and AI is preferred (Can be flexible on python)
Skills & Experience:
-
Experience in backend Java development with a focus on Java Spring Boot, RESTful APIs.
-
Experience in system design, with the ability to decompose complex problems into well-defined services and data models.
-
Hands-on experience designing and deploying production services on AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB).
-
Experience in Angular (v2+) including components, services, routing, state management, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and responsive web application development.
-
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, hibernate, JPA and related Java frameworks.
-
Proficiency in RESTful API design, development, and security best practices.
-
Hands-on experience with Python programming for application development, automation, scripting, data processing, API integration, or AI/ML-enabled solutions.

Experience leveraging AI/ML technologies in software development, including designing and building semantic search platforms, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) applications, intelligent document search solutions, and AI-powered developer productivity tools.

Familiarity with technologies such as OpenAI, Azure AI Services, LangChain, vector databases, embeddings, and modern AI application architectures is a plus

Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra).

Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.

Experience with serverless computing and event-driven architecture.

Knowledge of API gateways (e.g., AWS API Gateway) and service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio).

Certifications in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Developer/Solutions Architect).

Exposure to DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.

Annual Pay Range (Total compensation in USD): $85,000 - $110,000
