New Product Manager
Dayspring Technologies
Job description
The New Product Manager is a Dayspring staff member with experience in bringing software products to market reporting to the Director of Product and focused on developing a new product business for Dayspring (75% of role). In addition, the staff member will also be expected to make a contribution to a Dayspring client-facing Engineering team (25% of role).
This is a full-time position based in our San Francisco office with at least 3 days a week in office (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), and optionally 2 days a week (Monday and Thursday) remote.
What’s the role?
In the New Product development aspect of the role, you’re responsible for actively ideating, validating business models, prototyping, and building an internal startup within Dayspring, with a goal of $250K ARR within 2 years and $1 MM within 3-5 years. This may be a product idea that you initiate but may also be a product initiated from elsewhere within Dayspring that you shepherd.
You’re somebody who imagines software-enabled products, services, and businesses that ought to exist–especially those that serve the common good–and rolls up your sleeves to bring them into being. You iterate quickly, are not afraid to experiment, and bring your hard-won go-to-market expertise, experience, and judgment to get to the heart of the business issue and make the right decisions. You’re hands-on and not only willing but happy to play all the roles required to launch a product that you believe in and that Dayspring can get behind: visionary “CEO”, financial modeler, user interviewer, tactical and strategic marketer, salesperson, customer support, and early engineer.
But you also play well with others and welcome others’ expertise, and you’ll work collaboratively with other product managers as well as with appropriate brand, creative, engineering, and operations staff at Dayspring (suitable to the development stage of the product).
The Director of Product and a Venture Advisory Board that Dayspring is in the process of assembling will provide guidance and a sounding board for you. You’ll also collaborate with senior Engineering staff (and other Dayspring engineers) for technical feasibility, exploration, and rapid prototyping.
In the Engineer aspect of the role, you’ll contribute to one of Dayspring’s two Engineering teams as a Senior / Staff Software engineer bringing your software design and engineering skills to make concrete, billable contributions to our client work.
You’re glad to contribute to the client work that currently supports the bulk of Dayspring’s revenue, even as your primary interest is in developing and shepherding new products that diversify Dayspring’s portfolio of businesses.
As a strong candidate, you can expect a salary of $130,000 – $155,000 annually based on experience and qualifications; plus health insurance, retirement contribution, paid time off, and other benefits.
What’s needed for the role?
Minimum requirements
-
High internal motivation. You’re not waiting to be told what to do but instead setting interim goals and driving toward outcomes.
-
Experience with successfully bringing one or more products or services from concept to initial revenue from arms-length customers.
-
7+ years of experience in product management and development roles, with at least 2 years of experience with lead responsibilities.
-
Project management experience that includes a track record of successful implementations.
-
An ethic of service that makes you see a job–and products–as a way to serve people.
-
Empathy for customers and clients with a problem that they need to have solved. You’re accurate, compassionate, responsive, resourceful, and conscientious.
-
A communication style (written and verbal) that is polished and proactive. You’re able to convey business, functional, and technical details and processes in a simple and clear manner.
-
Appreciation of what’s uniquely possible with in-person work.
-
Excellent collaboration skills. Our environment is very team-oriented. You are too.
Preferred qualifications
-
Experience scaling a product from initial revenue to more than $500K ARR.
-
Experience with agile software development methodologies.
-
Experience with Typescript/Angular, Python, PHP, and/or MySQL/PostgreSQL.
-
Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related major.
Bonus
- Experience guiding products to more than $1 MM ARR.
What makes Dayspring unique?
-
We desire to live out an ethic of love–for our co-workers, for our customers, and for our community–in the practice of business. In the workplace, we want to do the joyful work of welcoming people with a variety of backgrounds into our company’s vision.
-
We sincerely desire to do right by the customers we serve. We keep our promises, we speak with respect, and we apologize when we ought to. And we expect to hold one another and to be held accountable to this.
-
We share each other’s burdens, and we put ourselves aside long enough to lend a helping hand. People aren’t constantly positioning themselves. No office politics here. And when your loved ones are sick, we’ll treat you like a person first and a worker second.
-
We share an office in San Francisco because we believe being together in person matters, and that practicing common life shapes us for the good. And we’re called and committed to our broader community in our Bayview neighborhood, including through our partnerships with Redeemer Community Church and Rise University Preparatory.
Founded in 1997 by a few Christian church members, Dayspring Partners is a digital consultancy serving organizations with people-focused brand and communications design, web design, and custom software development. In addition, our Goodbudget home budget app for iPhone, Android, and Web has served hundreds of thousands of households since 2009.
Over our two decade history, we’ve delighted our clients with our signature attention to detail, focus on delivering the right solution, and unsurpassed quality. And we’ve enjoyed working with each other immensely to boot.
We are a place-based business in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood that prioritizes in-person interactions while making provision for limited remote work.
