Senior Software Engineer
CVS Health
Job description
We’re building a world of health around every individual — shaping a more connected, convenient and compassionate health experience. At CVS Health®, you’ll be surrounded by passionate colleagues who care deeply, innovate with purpose, hold ourselves accountable and prioritize safety and quality in everything we do. Join us and be part of something bigger – helping to simplify health care one person, one family and one community at a time.
About The Role
Our engineering teams build the software that powers clinical care delivery at Oak Street Health — patient scheduling, care coordination, clinical records, and the integrations that connect our systems to health networks across the country. As a Sr Software Engineer, you'll own complex workstreams, drive technical decisions within your domain, and mentor the engineers around you. The work needs to be reliable, maintainable, and built to evolve — and in a healthcare environment, the quality of the design has direct clinical consequences.
What you'll do
-
Design and implement scalable microservices and APIs optimized for reliability and low latency
-
Own a domain or service area end-to-end, including its data model and integration contracts
-
Apply domain-driven design principles to define and enforce service boundaries
-
Build and evolve event-driven integrations using Kafka across service teams
-
Lead code reviews, set technical standards, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers
-
Partner with product and clinical stakeholders to refine requirements for high-impact initiatives
-
Hold the team accountable for test coverage, observability, and the production health of the services you own
What you'll bring
We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement. We're building a team with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
-
5+ years building distributed backend systems in production
-
Proficiency with Kotlin or Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem
-
Experience designing event-driven systems (Kafka or equivalent)
-
Hands-on experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or comparable data stores
-
Track record of leading technical work across a team — not just executing it
-
Experience with cloud-native deployment (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
What would set you apart
-
Deep familiarity with domain-driven design and bounded context modeling
-
Exposure to LLM/AI integration or document processing pipelines
-
Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) or EMR integrations
-
Background in high-throughput, low-latency service design at scale
-
Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, or other advanced event-driven patterns
