Job Summary

“From Silicon to Systems” – We are an elite, multi-disciplinary team, bringing together the brightest minds from physics, computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics to develop unique embedded security solutions for government and industrial customers. Battelle has been trusted by government clients to solve some of the world’s hardest security problems. We work in small agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology. Our high-powered labs include specialized software and hardware, so our engineers have everything they need to invent new Cyber solutions.

As a Software Engineer, you will spend your day designing, coding, and testing software. Our projects are non-standard, highly customized, and will push you to new levels as a software developer. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the software development life cycle with a focus on innovation and supporting cutting-edge R&D efforts.

This position will be based out of Battelle offices in Columbus, Ohio

Responsibilities

  • You will work with customers and team members to understand project requirements and scope, design/develop/modify software and firmware for custom memory constrained hardware and related systems.

  • You will work with internal and external customers to understand and set goals and expectations and translate and communicate those goals and expectations to the team.

  • You will research and analyze new libraries, technologies and tools and perform full software life cycle functions including software/firmware requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, and documentation.

  • You will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts from various scientific fields to develop custom software solutions.

  • You will be tasked with custom software maintenance and development.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong programming skills in C, C++ and Python

  • Basic networking skills (e.g., TCP/IP, socket programming)

  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and development tools

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Willingness to travel as required by project tasks

  • Must be a sole US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current security clearance

  • Experience with embedded software development and debugging tools

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)

  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or Linux kernel modules

  • Exposure to signal processing or control systems software

  • Experience with scripting and automation tools

  • Experience with RF systems or RF signal processing

  • Proficiency with MATLAB for data analysis or algorithm development

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $75,500-$105,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
