Title: Software Product Manager

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Location: Madison WI, or Philadelphia PA, it is required to be within the metropolitan areas of one of the following cities where we operate. This role is expected to be in the office two to four days per week.

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 8:30AM-5:00PM, 8 hours per day, 32 hours per week. Due to the nature of the work, some work hours outside of this may be required.

The Software Product Manager shapes the software products that power our bikeshare business. They turn customer and operator needs, business priorities, and new opportunities into products that make bikeshare easier to operate and better to use. They set product direction, define priorities, and guide products from discovery through launch and continuous improvement. They work closely with the engineering teams in an iterative, customer-centered process and use feedback, data, and real-world learning to continually improve what we build. They partner across teams to create cohesive user experiences and ensure our technology evolves with the needs of our customers and our business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the development of a shared software product vision and roadmap, bringing teams across the company together around a common direction that aligns with company mission and business objectives. Translate business goals, customer needs, and operational challenges into clear product opportunities.

  • Define product goals and success measures and use them to guide decisions and evaluate results across the organization

  • Partner with the Head of Product, Hardware to shape and execute the company-wide product strategy, ensuring software and hardware roadmaps are aligned and integrated.

  • Partner with executive leadership to balance customer needs, business priorities, and market opportunities.

  • Champion the customer experience, serving as the company's expert voice on digital products, platforms, and how customers interact with them.

  • Conduct and oversee market research, competitive analysis, and industry monitoring to inform strategic decisions.

  • Manage and develop Business Analysts, providing direction, coaching, and support to ensure alignment with product priorities.

Product Development & Lifecycle

  • Lead the product lifecycle from discovery and definition through launch and ongoing improvement, partnering with the software engineering team in development and delivery.

  • Define product requirements and priorities in partnership with engineering and other stakeholders.

  • Lead an iterative, customer-centered product development process, incorporating user feedback and learning throughout development to continuously improve the product.

  • Make clear trade-offs between scope, customer experience, quality, performance, security, scalability, cost, and time to market.

  • Partner with software engineering and design teams to ensure they have a clear, shared understanding of the problems we're solving and the outcomes we're aiming for. Analyze usage data, product performance, and customer feedback after launch, using what we learn to improve the product and inform future priorities.

  • Ensure effective and consistent communication across teams and with key partners

  • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing consistent updates on software product progress, managing expectations, and aligning teams on timelines and goals.

  • Conduct customer interviews, analyze usage data, and synthesize feedback from diverse stakeholders to inform product decisions. Engage deeply with developers to understand workflows, development process, and security requirements

  • Lead product thinking around the platform's ability to integrate, including external technology vendors, content extraction tools, tagging solutions, and other enterprise infrastructure.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Required:

    • 6+ years of product management experience, with at least 4+ years with software product.

    • Proven track record of delivering successful software products from concept to scale, including discovery, development, launch, and ongoing improvement.

    • Technical understanding of software architecture and UX/UI design,

    • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills, with ability to navigate ambiguity and align diverse stakeholders.

    • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

    • Ability to understand complex problems and turn them into clear product priorities and requirements.

    • Strong customer focus and an ability to understand both user needs and business goals.

    • Confidence making decisions and trade-offs in an environment where priorities and requirements can change.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Curiosity about technology and the ability to work effectively with engineers and technical leaders.

  • Nice to Have:

    • Experience in bikeshare, mobility, transportation, logistics, fleet management, IoT, or other operational technology.

    • Experience building B2B or internal software products.

    • Experience with mobile applications, APIs, integrations, or data products.

    • Experience working with hardware and software products that need to operate together.

    • MBA or advanced degree in product design, computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Physical Requirements and Special Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • The person in this full-time position is expected to work 32 hours per week (4 days per week, 8 hours per day). Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required.

    • Location: Madison, Wisconsin strongly preferred. Philadelphia may also be considered for the right candidate. This role is expected to be in the office two to four days per week.

    • Work is primarily sedentary with occasional travel to partners, sites, and industry events.

    • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and video conferencing throughout the workday.

    • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with company policy

    • Repetitive motion required of the wrists, hands, or fingers occasionally throughout the workday
