What You'll Do

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and support system interfaces that connect multiple healthcare applications, ensuring reliable and secure exchange of clinical and operational data between systems such as EHRs, laboratory systems, billing platforms, and external healthcare services. In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain HL7 interfaces between healthcare systems including EHR, LIS, RIS, billing, and third-party platforms

  • Build and support real-time and batch data integrations to enable seamless communication across systems

  • Configure and manage integration engines / middleware platforms to route, transform, and validate messages

  • Develop data mappings, transformations, and workflows for healthcare message processing

  • Monitor interface performance and troubleshoot message failures, data inconsistencies, and connectivity issues

  • Collaborate with clinical IT teams, vendors, and internal engineering teams to implement and support integrations

  • Develop and maintain API-based integrations and service-based architectures where appropriate

  • Document interface specifications, data mappings, workflows, and architecture diagrams

  • Ensure integrations comply with HIPAA and healthcare security standards

  • Participate in system upgrades, interface testing, and deployment activities

What You'll Bring

We're looking for an experienced integration engineer who can bridge technical systems and clinical operations with sound judgment and clear communication. The ideal candidate will:

  • Collaborate effectively with clinical IT teams, vendors, and internal engineering teams

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Apply strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex integration issues

  • Maintain thorough documentation and strong attention to detail

  • Work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to healthcare compliance and data security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Health Informatics, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 7–10 years of experience in software engineering or healthcare system integration

  • Experience working with HL7 messaging standards (v2.x), including message types such as ADT, ORM, ORU, and SIU

  • Hands-on experience with integration engines or middleware platforms

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript

  • Experience working with REST APIs, XML, JSON, and message-based architectures

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for system-to-system integrations and data workflows

  • Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, data transformation, and integration architecture

  • Awareness of HIPAA and healthcare security compliance requirements
