Accounting Lead Role:

The Accounting Lead is responsible for assisting the management team in overseeing day-to-day operations of the general ledger accounting function for all CoreSite entities while actively performing other complex accounting tasks. This position plays a leadership role with hands-on accounting work, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and SOX requirements, and supporting strategic initiatives. This position will oversee aspects of the general ledger function including but not limited to the following: review and preparation of monthly account reconciliations and journal entries, training and mentoring, assistance with tenant expense recovery reconciliations and audits, accuracy and timeliness of month end close and internal financial reporting, and assistance on quarterly and annual audits.

What You'll Do:

  • Full understanding of accounting aspects of real estate properties owned or leased by CoreSite

  • Review and/or preparation of monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset reports, accrual analysis, income statement and balance sheet variance analysis against forecast and historical month, and financial close packages

  • Train new hires and existing staff on accounting policies, procedures and best practices, ensuring adherence to accounting policies and internal controls

  • Provide mentorship to the team members as they navigate a structured month-end close process which is completed by the 5th business day of each month

  • Serve as back-up coverage for team members during absences to maintain continuity

  • Review and/or prepare tenant expense recovery reconciliations and audit support

  • Assist in developing and implementing sound accounting policies and procedures ensuring consistency across the team

  • Communicate directly with external auditors during audits

  • Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements

  • Promote and demonstrate the behaviors consistent with CoreSite's culture and values

  • Special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Hands-on, self-starter who is disciplined and detail oriented with the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting that requires a highly accurate and timely work product

  • Excellent listening, written, verbal and interpersonal skills

  • Exhibits a strong work ethic and accountability to deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment

  • Knowledge of JD Edwards (or other ERP systems) and Hyperion EssBase is a plus

  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • Duties require broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with complex accounting issues

Education/Experience:

  • BA/BS or Master's degree (Accounting is preferred)

  • Minimum of five years accounting experience is required

  • Experience in monthly close process is required

  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley is preferred

  • CPA license is preferred

  • Accounting experience within publicly traded or privately owned real estate investment trusts, other property-owning entities, or technology companies is valuable

Compensation: Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $87,700 and $96,900 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based upon individual and company performance.
