Role: Accountant

Location: Indianapolis, IN

  • The Accountant is responsible for managing, analyzing, and reporting information to support accurate decision-making and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

  • You will prepare financial statements, monitor budgets, reconcile accounts, analyze trends, and maintain accurate records of financial transactions.

  • You will also assist in interpreting complex financial data, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and providing guidance to internal stakeholders to support the health and operational efficiency.

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards.

  • Maintain or examine the records of other agencies.

  • Advise the appointing authority and/or controller of the status of all accounts.

  • Develop policies and procedures for general accounting and bookkeeping.

  • Oversee usage of the computerized accounting system.

  • Establish work methods and control measures for accounting/bookkeeping functions.

  • Certify the accuracy of the agency's financial records and accounts.

  • Review reports for grant reconciliation for grant funded accounts.

  • Direct program staff in accounting matters relating to specific program funding.

  • Assist controller in budget preparation.

Skills Required:

  • Experience with Accounts Payable Required 5 Years

  • Experience with Accounts Receivable Required 5 Years

  • Experience with reconciling complex discrepancies between accounts Required 5 Years

  • Strong communication and problem solving skills Required

  • Motivated, self-starter who is comfortable working on a team and individually Required

  • Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of public accounting Required

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, policies, and procedures as they pertain to accounting and bookkeeping. Required

  • Extensive knowledge of automated accounting systems. Required

  • Ability to lead budget preparations. Required

  • Ability to direct the preparation and interpretation of complex financial statements and reports. Required

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex accounting problems. Required

  • Ability to develop new, or modify existing, accounting procedures and methods Required
