Job description
The York by Swiss-Belhotel is seeking an experienced Accountant to take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function of our strata-based hotel operation in Sydney.
Reporting to the Regional Director of Finance and working closely with the Hotel Manager and regional team, this is a hands-on role combining financial accounting, management reporting, compliance, payroll oversight and commercial analysis.
The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining strong financial controls while providing timely and meaningful information to support hotel performance and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End: Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, management reports, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.

Accounting Operations: Manage day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, journals and month-end close.

Hotel Revenue & PMS Reconciliation: Review and reconcile transactions between the Property Management System (PMS), payment platforms and accounting system, investigating and resolving discrepancies.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis: Assist with annual budgets, rolling forecasts and cash flow forecasting, and provide analysis of actual performance against budget and forecast.

Payroll & Productivity: Review payroll and rosters, analyse payroll costs and productivity metrics, and ensure appropriate payroll controls are maintained.

Tax & Statutory Compliance: Prepare and review BAS, PAYG, Payroll Tax and other statutory requirements and ensure payments and lodgements are completed accurately and on time.

Audit & Financial Controls: Coordinate audit requirements and maintain appropriate accounting procedures, supporting documentation and internal controls.

Cash Flow & Working Capital: Monitor hotel cash flow, creditor payments, receivables and other working capital requirements.

Team Supervision: Oversee and support the Accounts Clerk, including workflow management, training and development.

Contracts & Systems Administration: Maintain the hotel’s contracts register and support the administration and financial control of key hotel systems and service agreements.

Stakeholder Support: Work closely with hotel management, owners, auditors, banks, suppliers, the ATO and the regional finance team as required.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.

CA, CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification is highly regarded.

At least 5 years’ relevant accounting experience, ideally within hotels, hospitality, property, serviced apartments or a similarly operational environment.

Strong understanding of financial accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end processes, budgeting and statutory compliance.

Experience with BAS, PAYG and Australian accounting and taxation requirements.

Strong Excel skills and confidence working across accounting, payroll and operational systems.

Experience with hotel Property Management Systems, Xero, Employment Hero or similar platforms would be advantageous.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

Ability to manage competing deadlines and take ownership of the finance function.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance and operational teams.
