Job description

Company Description

Terra Pixel provides advanced Alternative Position Navigation and Timing (APNT) solutions that support reliable aircraft navigation in contested EW environments. The organization focuses on technologies that enhance safety, resiliency, and precision for aviation and aerospace applications. Terra Pixel’s work centers on developing innovative navigation systems that complement or back up traditional GPS-based methods. Team members collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver robust, mission-critical software and hardware solutions for the Washington DC–Baltimore Area and beyond.

Role Description

As an Aerial Robotics Software Engineer at Terra Pixel, you will design, implement, and maintain

Navigation, Guidance & Controls (NGC)

software systems that enable autonomous and semi-autonomous aerial platforms to integrate with APNT navigation solutions. You will develop and test software components, focusing on reliable flight control, sensor integration, navigation algorithms, and system performance in real-world scenarios. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean, scalable code, conducting code reviews, debugging and optimizing systems, contributing to technical documentation, and collaborating closely with other engineers and stakeholders. You will participate in simulation and field testing, analyze flight data, and implement improvements based on performance metrics and safety requirements. This is a contract position in a hybrid work model, based in the Washington DC–Baltimore Area, with a mix of on-site collaboration and flexible work-from-home arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.

  • Proficiency in Software Development and Programming for robotics or embedded systems, using languages such as C++, Python, or similar.

  • Experience with Back-End Web Development for services supporting aerial robotics (APIs, data pipelines, cloud or on-prem infrastructure).

  • Strong skills in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), including design patterns and modular, maintainable code practices.

  • Experience with robotics frameworks (e.g., ROS or similar), real-time systems, and integrating navigation or sensor data.

  • Familiarity with aerospace, UAVs, or flight control systems, and comfort working with simulation tools and field test environments.

  • Ability to collaborate in a hybrid setting, communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, and manage priorities in a contract role.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
