AI Principal Engineer
Reliable Medical Supply
Job description
AI Principal Engineer
Reliable Medical Supply (ReliaMed)
Reports to: CIO | Team: Development Team | Full-Time
About the Role
ReliaMed is building a modern web application with a React front end, a C# API backend, and Azure cloud infrastructure (including Azure API Management) that sits on top of our Brightree CRT/HME platform. We're looking for an AI Principal Engineer to be a hands-on technical leader who accelerates our development velocity using modern AI-assisted engineering tools, while also owning architecture decisions across our Azure cloud footprint, C#/.NET services, and data integration pipelines.
This is a builder role, not a management role โ you'll be writing code, designing systems, and setting technical direction alongside our Full Stack Developer and existing Development Team, reporting directly into the CIO.
What You'll Do
-
AI-Accelerated Engineering: Use Claude Code and similar AI coding agents as a core part of the development workflow, applying spec-driven development practices to turn well-defined requirements into AI-generated implementation plans and code โ architecting how the team delegates coding tasks, reviews AI-generated code, and maintains quality/security standards for AI-assisted development.
-
System Architecture: Own and evolve the architecture for our web application and adjacent systems, including the React front end, C# API backend, Azure API Management (APIM), and integration points with Brightree (SOAP/REST APIs, SQL-level extracts).
-
Full-Stack Development: Design and build front-end features in React and backend services/APIs in C# / ASP.NET Core, following our Secure SDLC and Code Review policies.
-
Data Platform & ETL: Contribute to and extend our metadata-driven Brightree Extract Framework (Azure SQL, incremental bcp-based pipelines, SQL Server Agent orchestration) to support downstream BI and application workflows.
-
Cloud Infrastructure: Manage Azure resources across our subscriptions, including API Management, Key Vault, identity (DefaultAzureCredential), networking, and cost/performance optimization.
-
Technical Leadership: Set coding standards, review architecture decisions (build vs. buy), and mentor the Full Stack Developer and other team members on best practices for AI-augmented software delivery.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the CIO, Support Team, Security, and business stakeholders (Finance, Operations, Compliance) to translate operational gaps into technical solutions.
-
Vendor & Build Evaluation: Assess build-vs-buy tradeoffs for platform capabilities (e.g., patient intake, claims/denials, payments) and contribute technical input to vendor evaluations.
What We're Looking For
Required:
-
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including architecture-level ownership of production systems.
-
Strong hands-on experience with C# / .NET / ASP.NET Core.
-
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Azure: API Management (APIM), Azure SQL, Key Vault, and Azure AD/identity patterns.
-
Strong hands-on experience with React for building modern front-end applications.
-
Practical experience using AI coding agents (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) in a real production development workflow โ not just casual use.
-
Experience with spec-driven development โ writing clear specs/requirements that AI coding agents can reliably translate into implementation plans and working code.
-
Solid understanding of system architecture patterns: API design, microservices vs. modular monoliths, and integration architecture.
-
Experience with SQL Server (T-SQL, ETL/data pipeline design, performance tuning).
-
Healthcare, CRT/HME, or other regulated-industry experience (HIPAA-aware development practices) is a strong plus.
-
Experience integrating with legacy or third-party healthcare platforms (e.g., Brightree, EHR systems) is a strong plus.
You'll thrive in this role if you:
-
Enjoy being deeply technical and strategic โ equally comfortable writing production code and presenting architecture decisions to executive stakeholders.
-
Have opinions about how AI coding tools should be used responsibly (code review discipline, security review of AI-generated code, prompt/context engineering for complex codebases).
-
Like working in a small, high-ownership team where you'll influence both the roadmap and the code.
-
Are comfortable in a fast-moving environment with active M&A integration work.
Nice to Have
-
Experience with Playwright or other browser automation/RPA tools.
-
Experience with Power BI / semantic model design (medallion architecture, dbt).
-
Prior experience standing up or scaling a development team's use of AI-assisted engineering tools.
Why ReliaMed
You'll have direct influence over the architecture of a modern web application built from the ground up to modernize CRT/HME operations across a multi-entity, multi-branch organization โ with executive visibility and the autonomy to shape how AI tools reshape our engineering practice.
