Solace
Job description
About Solace
Healthcare in the U.S. is fundamentally broken. The system is so complex that 88% of U.S. adults do not have the health literacy necessary to navigate it without help. Solace cuts through the red tape of healthcare by pairing patients with expert advocates and giving them the tools to make better decisions—and get better outcomes.
We're a Series C startup, founded in 2022 and backed by Inspired Capital, Craft Ventures, Torch Capital, Menlo Ventures, Signalfire, and IVP. Our U.S. based team is lean, mission-driven, and growing quickly.
Solace isn't a place to coast. We're here to redefine healthcare—and that demands urgency, precision, and heart. If you're looking to stretch yourself, sharpen your edge, and do the best work of your life alongside a team that cares deeply, you're in the right place. We’re intense, and we like it that way.

About the Role
This is a rare chance to learn data engineering from the inside out at one of the fastest-growing healthcare startups in the country. As an Associate Data Engineer at Solace, you'll help build the data platform behind how millions of people experience healthcare.
You won't be relegated to toy ETL exercises or endless onboarding. You'll ship real pipeline code that moves billions of rows a month and powers the analytics, machine learning, and decisions behind our patient advocacy marketplace. You’ll have mentorship from senior and staff engineers and ownership of your work from design through deployment. You don't need years of experience, but you do need an innate ability to get things done.
This role is for the ambitious, the curious, and those who don't shy away from feedback. If you're the kind of person who sees a problem and can't resist solving it, keep reading.
This is an in person role in our Redwood City office, 3 days a week.
What You'll Do
-
Ship production pipeline code in your first weeks: real data flowing to real stakeholders.
-
Build across the data platform, from ingestion to orchestration to modeling, using Python, Airflow, dbt, and Snowflake, learning the full lifecycle of modern data engineering.
-
Take ownership of pipelines end-to-end. You'll be accountable for what you build, and you'll feel the weight and pride of that responsibility.
-
Debug production data issues, refactor messy transformations, and improve reliability. Not glamorous, but essential, and you'll learn more from this than any course could teach you.
-
Learn infrastructure as code with Terraform and cloud services (AWS), understanding how the platform your pipelines run on is provisioned and secured.
-
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and data modeling decisions. Your voice matters here, even on day one.
-
Grow your craft: learn how to design pipelines, write production code, understand industry best practices and make smart engineering tradeoffs.
What You Bring to the Table
-
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience), graduating between December 2026 and June 2027.
-
Solid fundamentals in programming, data structures, and databases.
-
Working knowledge of Python and SQL, and the drive to level up fast.
-
Projects that show you can build real things: internships, personal projects, hackathons, open source contributions. We care about what you've shipped, not just what you studied.
-
An appreciation for the gravity of handling sensitive medical data, and a willingness to learn secure, compliant engineering practices (PHI/PII, access controls).
-
A bias toward action. You have an exceptional craving for momentum, and you'd rather ship something solid and iterate than wait for perfect.
-
Curiosity for how systems work, comfort with ambiguity, and a refined palate for controlled chaos.
-
Confident communication. You can explain your thinking simply, take feedback without defensiveness, and collaborate with people who aren't engineers.
-
A sense of care. You take pride in the details, because in healthcare data, the details are the difference.
-
A hunger to learn and an ego small enough to admit when you don't know something.
Bonus Points
-
Exposure to Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, or another cloud data warehouse.
-
Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, or AWS/GCP.
-
Experience working with APIs and semi-structured data.
Our Tech Stack
-
Compute & Storage: Snowflake, Postgres
-
Orchestration: Airflow
-
Infrastructure: Terraform, AWS
-
Transformation: dbt, SQL, Python
