About the Opportunity:

The Backend Engineer will focus on maturing and scaling the data platform that supports clinical data products. This role involves designing and implementing systems for ingesting, processing, quality control, and delivery of large, complex healthcare datasets. The position contributes to efficient processing of sensitive data while ensuring reproducibility, traceability, and quality.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build production pipelines for healthcare dataset ingestion, transformation, validation, and delivery

• Develop backend services and APIs for clinical data products

• Create reliable Dagster workflows with robust partitioning, retries, idempotency, backfills, and observability

• Design data models and contracts supporting schema evolution, lineage, reproducibility, and analysis

• Operate and improve Kubernetes containerized workloads

• Build systems to monitor pipeline health, data quality, performance, and infrastructure costs

• Diagnose issues across application, data, and infrastructure layers

• Enhance performance of Python and SQL workloads on large datasets

• Establish testing and deployment practices to improve data system reliability

• Collaborate with AI engineers to productionize and scale model workflows

• Contribute to technical architecture as platform and processing volume grow

Requirements:

• 5+ years building production backend or data-intensive software systems

• Strong skills in Python and SQL

• Experience with AWS and Kubernetes

• Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions

• Experience designing and operating data pipelines at scale using orchestration frameworks like Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect

• Clear communication and collaborative mindset

Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• The expected base salary generally ranges from $175,000 to $250,000 per year, with meaningful equity, and may include discretionary bonuses and company-sponsored benefit programs. Final compensation is determined based on experience, expertise, business needs, and market conditions.
