Job description

About The Role

The Backend Engineer builds the APIs, services, and data systems that power user-facing products at scale. The role focuses on designing reliable distributed services in Go or Java, working with PostgreSQL and Kafka, and delivering low-latency systems that remain dependable as traffic and product complexity grow.

You will own backend features from technical design through production operations, partnering with frontend, mobile, product, and infrastructure engineers. The work directly affects product performance, data integrity, and the pace at which new customer experiences can ship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable backend services and REST or gRPC APIs using Go, Java, or a comparable strongly typed language

  • Build reliable data workflows with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and cloud-managed storage systems

  • Own service performance and reliability through profiling, capacity planning, observability, and production incident response

  • Define API contracts, data models, and service boundaries in collaboration with frontend and mobile engineers

  • Deploy and operate services on AWS or GCP using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation

  • Write comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests; review code and raise engineering quality across the team

  • Partner with product and design to break ambiguous requirements into measurable technical deliverables

What We Are Looking For

  • 3–8 years of professional backend or software engineering experience, with a track record of operating production services

  • Strong proficiency in Go, Java, Python, or another modern backend language, including experience with concurrency and asynchronous processing

  • Hands-on experience designing RESTful or gRPC APIs, service-oriented architectures, and versioned data contracts

  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, SQL, indexing, transactions, and schema migration strategies; experience with PostgreSQL is preferred

  • Experience with distributed systems and messaging technologies such as Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub

  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, containers, observability tools, and automated testing and deployment practices

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience; Bonus: experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, event-driven architectures, GraphQL, or high-scale consumer products
