Job description
Job description:
The Business Analyst turns company data into reports, analysis and projections that management uses to make decisions. The role serves the whole company: sales, finance, operations, procurement, inventory and HR.
The analyst is expected to recommend actions, not only present figures. Routine reports should be automated so that time goes to analysis and forecasting.
Key responsibilities
Management reporting

Prepare daily, weekly and monthly management reports on sales, costs, profitability, cash flow, inventory, purchases and departmental performance.
-
Agree KPIs with each department head, and build dashboards that show them at a glance for senior management.
-
Deliver reports on a fixed calendar, with figures checked against source systems before release.
Analysis and decision support
-
Analyse trends, variances and exceptions, and explain the causes in plain language.
-
Present findings with a clear recommendation and the expected cost or saving.
-
Prepare ad hoc analysis for management decisions, such as pricing, product and customer profitability, cost control, staffing and investments.
-
Analyse revenue, cost and profitability by product, customer and department to find improvement opportunities.
Forecasting and projections
-
Build sales, cost, cash flow and inventory forecasts using historical data and known business plans.
-
Support the annual budget with company-wide and departmental projections.
-
Model scenarios, for example the effect of price changes, cost increases, volume growth or new investments.
-
Track forecast against actual each month and improve the models.
Automation and data quality
-
Automate recurring reports so they refresh from source data without manual rework.
-
Extract and combine data from the ERP and departmental spreadsheets.
-
Identify and correct data errors, and work with the EDP function to fix them at source.
-
Document each report: data source, logic, owner and frequency.
-
Qualifications and experience
-
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, statistics, supply chain, computer science or a related field.
-
3 to 5 years in a business analyst, MIS analyst or FP&A role.
