Data Analyst (Market Surveillance)
Etpa - A new way of power trading
Job description
Etpa is a designated European Power Exchange for the short-term electricity market. Our state-of-the-art platform is a key enabler for the transition to renewable energy. We provide access to spot-trading to many new players in the market, including energy traders, battery optimizers, asset owners and utilities.
We outperform our competitors in terms of speed, cash management, scalability, cost and IT connectivity. Our current portfolio of exchanges includes Intraday (XBID), Congestion management (GOPACS) and day after trading (Ex-Post), with day-ahead trading launching later this year. We hold the NEMO license to operate a regulated power exchange and share order books with other European exchanges. We are heavily investing in the expansion of our geography and product suite, with the ambition to become the leading energy exchange in Europe.
About the role
We are looking for a Data Analyst who can turn our data into answers across the business
. You report directly to the CEO.
A core part of the role is market surveillance. You monitor our markets, look into anything unusual, and decide when something needs to go to the regulator. We are building this capability now, so you help shape how it works
. Alongside that, you work across teams, for example with Operations and Finance, answering their questions with data and helping with projects across the company.
Previous experience in power markets is useful. Strong analytical judgment, integrity and the ability to learn quickly matter more.
Your responsibilities
-
Monitor orders and trades across our markets for signs of market abuse, and investigate what looks unusual.
-
Own the decision on whether a case meets the REMIT notification threshold, and submit the notification to the national regulatory authority and ACER.
-
Keep case records that hold up to external review, and improve how we detect issues, from tooling to procedures.
-
Work with teams such as Operations and Finance on the questions they need answered, from one-off analysis to recurring reporting.
-
Support projects across the company where data analysis is needed.
-
Build dashboards and tools that make recurring analysis faster, including practical uses of AI.
-
Explain what the data shows clearly to the people who need to act on it.
About you
-
3+ years in a quantitative or analytical role, with a background in econometrics, mathematics, physics, data science or something similar.
-
Comfortable with large, detailed datasets, including high-frequency timestamped event data
.
-
Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, spreadsheets and BI tools, or the equivalent. You do not need all of them.
-
Happy to work across very different questions, from a market investigation to a finance report.
-
The patience to investigate properly before you conclude, and confidence in your own read of the evidence.
-
The ability to explain a complex finding clearly to people who do not work with data.
-
Careful judgment, integrity and comfort handling sensitive information.
-
Fluency in English, ability to work from our Amsterdam office, and a valid work permit for the European Union.
Nice to have
-
Experience in market surveillance, trade surveillance, fraud analytics or another investigative setting.
-
A consulting background, or experience supporting different teams, such as operations or finance, with analysis.
-
Knowledge of REMIT or a comparable market abuse framework, or of order books and intraday power markets.
What we offer
-
Competitive salary and benefits.
-
An independent role reporting directly to the CEO, with direct access to our Supervisory Board, whose consent is required for your appointment.
-
Variety, with work that ranges from market investigations to the questions that shape how the business runs.
-
Room to shape how we work with data, since much of it is still being built.
-
A close-knit and international team across Amsterdam, Valletta and Novi Sad, with regular company events.
-
High responsibility and visibility within a growing energy-tech scale-up.
-
The chance to contribute directly to the European energy transition.
