About the Opportunity:
The Data Engineer role focuses on designing, deploying, and maintaining data workflows and streaming technologies to support secure and scalable data exchange in cloud and on-premise environments. This position is essential in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of data systems, contributing to the organization's mission of delivering secure, efficient software solutions for government clients.
Responsibilities:
• Design data workflows and pipelines to support ETL/ELT processes, ensuring data quality and secure exchange across AWS cloud and on-premises environments
• Apply systems engineering principles to maintain reliable, scalable, and maintainable data systems, including backup and recovery
• Architect, deploy, and operate data streaming technologies such as Kafka, Redpanda, or Kinesis on Kubernetes, emphasizing declarative definitions
• Collaborate with platform teams to implement best practices in configuration management, security, and performance optimization
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and scaling using tools like Terraform
• Work with cybersecurity specialists to defend data systems against potential threats
• Ensure compliance with industry and Department of Defense regulations, standards, and best practices
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to Kubernetes, containerization, and data engineering
• Travel as required, approximately 6 to 10 times per year
Requirements:
• Minimum five years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines, databases, and data exchange services on Kubernetes
• Experience designing and operating Kafka or Redpanda data streaming solutions on Kubernetes
• Ability to create data pipelines handling large data volumes and manage data stores
• Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration systems (Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of systems engineering principles for data systems reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Familiarity with API security, container security, AWS cloud security, and cybersecurity best practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in teams
• Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level Department of Defense security clearance following a background check
• Experience with machine learning and generative AI models
Pay Range and Compensation Package:
• Salary range: $124,250 to $166,750 USD annually, based on experience
• Compensation packages consider national benchmarking and apply across all U.S. locations
