Job description
About the role
As a Data Scientist at OncoRes Medical, you will develop the machine learning and computer vision models for a novel medical device that will impact the lives of millions of people around the world. Our imaging technology is progressing through regulatory development and the models you build, refine, and validate will directly shape the product that reaches surgeons and their patients. Working within a project team of software developers and data experts, this is a unique opportunity to take real ownership of the machine learning workstream in a rapidly growing company, with significant growth and development opportunities for the right candidate.
We are open to a range of experience levels for this role: an experienced data scientist will find genuine scope to provide technical leadership of the machine learning workstream, while a promising earlier-career candidate will be supported and mentored as they ramp up.
Key responsibilities
-
Develop, improve, and validate machine learning and computer vision models and data processing pipelines
-
Support the development, verification and documentation of machine learning models within FDA regulatory program and medical device quality system
-
Perform analysis and visualization across large imaging datasets to understand trends and identify areas for improvement
-
Design and run experiments to test hypotheses about system and model performance
-
Analyse clinical data from ongoing trials to identify opportunities and generate inputs for future iterations of the system
-
Work closely with software engineers to translate machine learning models from development through integration into the medical device software
-
Effectively communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
About you
-
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field
-
Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, including model development, evaluation, validation and sources of bias/overfitting
-
Experience creating and fine-tuning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or related tools (typically 2+ years; candidates with deeper experience are highly regarded, and strong early-career candidates will also be considered)
-
Experience applying Python to image processing, computer vision and/or machine learning problems
-
Experience writing quality technical documentation and working with version control systems (e.g. Git)
-
Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work with honesty and transparency while being committed to doing what's best for our patients, customers, and company
-
Must have full working rights in Australia
Desirable Experience
-
Experience with DICOM, FHIR, and other medical imaging formats
-
Medical or regulated device development experience (e.g. IEC 62304, FDA submissions, Good Machine Learning Practice)
-
Background in biomedical imaging, signal processing, optics, or physics, including hands-on laboratory or experimental work
-
Experience supporting clinical studies and datasets
-
Experience working with large datasets and relational databases
