Deputy Charge Nurse

Based at University College Hospital in central London, you will play a vital role in the safe and effective delivery of emergency nursing care to over 142,000 patients a year. You will work alongside a talented, supportive team that includes Band 7 Charge Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, and a dedicated Consultant Nurse, all led by experienced Senior Nurses and a Matron. Responsibilities

As Deputy Charge Nurse in our Emergency Department, you will take a lead role in ensuring the safe, high-quality care of patients attending University College Hospital as emergencies. Key responsibilities include:

Taking charge of the Emergency Department on a shift-by-shift basis alongside the Consultant in Charge, managing and supervising nursing staff to maintain safe, effective care delivery.

Supporting Senior Nurses and Charge Nurses to maintain quality of care and performance against Care Quality Indicators (CQIs) for Emergency Services.

Acting as Named Nurse for a defined patient group, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating holistic, patient-centred care programmes including discharge planning.

Line managing a small team of Band 3–6 staff, including appraisals, sickness management and performance monitoring, supported by your Band 7 Team Leader.

Mentoring, precepting and supporting the educational development of junior nursing staff and students, working closely with the Clinical Practice Facilitator team.

Contributing to quality improvement, audit and risk management initiatives, and supporting the Trust’s response to major incidents (MAJAX) as required.
