Job description
SUMMARY: To provide accounting services to enhance the efficient and effective operations of the Escambia County Board of Education. To ensure accurate and timely record keeping and reporting of the financial transactions related to the school system’s operations, programs, and services. QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree in accounting, finance or related area from a regionally accredited college or university. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must have proficiency using computers, a ten-key calculator, utilizing spreadsheets, word processors, and accounting software. Must have proficiency using office equipment. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to plan and organize. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, government officials, and the public.Ability to be flexible. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must have the ability to effectively communicate externally with the public and internally with employees. Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision and use independent judgement. Must work well with others. Must be able to organize and maintain accurate data and records. REPORTS TO: Chief School Financial Officer PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, financial statements, statistical statements, reports, schedules, and tabulations. Generates and monitors financial data, reports, and other information; while keeping the immediate supervisor informed about such. Performs other office procedures (opening mail, answering telephone, filing, typing and/or distributing external and internal correspondence, and other similar routine office functions). Prepares written communications and conduct verbal communications with suppliers, vendors, schools, and district departments relating to accounting and financial matters. Assists in conducting training of school and district personnel in accounting systems, accounting procedures, and other accounting related matters. Other reasonable and/or equitable position related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor. Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities. Collects, prepares, analyzes and distributes annual financial budget planning material to the appropriate department as directed by the Accounting Supervisor. Assists in budgeting processing under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor. Assists with the preparation of financial statements, income statements, and cost reports to reflect financial conditions of the school system as directed. Prepares bank reconciliations for all districtwide bank accounts. Monitors and balances various accounts as assigned. Performs FTE reconciliations on a monthly basis to ensure all schools are meeting the required foundation unit allocation within that source of funds. Maintains a variety of files and records related to general accounting functions; maintains various ledgers, registers and journals according to established account classifications. Participates in cross-training for any other types of accounting, payroll or other finance related duties and tasks as needed within Business and Finance. Assists Chief School Financial Officer as required in various accounting, finance and business-related functions. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory. 17. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Work: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. Transportation required to perform job responsibilities, and the system will reimburse mileage from designated office location per travel policy guidelines.
