Job description

Role Summary:

You will contribute to all aspects of electrical system design within the engineering team, supporting concept development, prototype builds, and release of electrical designs into production. While the role covers the full breadth of electrical design activities, you will focus on the design, integration, and documentation of electrical systems used within our vehicle thermal management solutions.

As a key contributor to electrical system delivery, you will support best practices in power distribution, protection strategies, grounding, wiring and harness design, and system integration. You will support other engineers by reviewing electrical aspects of their designs, contributing to technical decision‑making, and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.

You will work closely with mechanical engineers, software and controls engineers, manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to ensure electrical system designs are practical, robust, serviceable, and aligned with production capability. During prototype builds, you will work hands‑on with technicians to support installation, commissioning, fault‑finding, and issue resolution.

Following testing and validation activities, you will ensure designs are updated, documented, and ready for smooth transition into serial production.

This is an office‑ and workshop‑based role requiring a professional electrical engineer with strong system‑level understanding and a practical approach to engineering delivery.

Areas of Responsibility

Design & Development:

  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness layouts, and electrical bills of materials (BOMs) to support release into production

  • Design and define vehicle‑ and system‑level electrical architectures, including power distribution, fusing and protection, grounding strategies, and cable / harness routing

  • Specify electrical components such as cables, connectors, contactors, relays, sensors, and actuators

  • Ensure electrical designs are suitable for environmental conditions, vibration, thermal exposure, service access, and manufacturability

  • Work closely with mechanical design engineers to ensure electrical routing, mounting, and protection are incorporated early in the design process

  • Support electrical interfaces to control units and software systems (no electronic hardware or embedded software design responsibility)

Testing & Validation:

  • Support prototype builds, commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis activities

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of Design Verification Plans (DVPs) for electrical systems

  • Support electrical testing activities including:

  • Continuity and insulation testing

  • Functional system testing

  • Installation‑level EMC considerations

  • Review test results and ensure design updates are implemented and documented

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and maintain electrical design documentation, including schematics, harness drawings, installation information, and technical notes

  • Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant industry standards, internal processes, and safety requirements

  • Maintain accurate and controlled electrical BOMs and part data within ERP / MRP systems

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful integration of electrical systems within overall product designs

  • Liaise with suppliers and contractors to specify and source electrical components and resolve technical issues

  • Communicate clearly with engineers, technicians, and managers on technical issues, progress, and risks

Continuous improvements

  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement activities

  • Support standardisation of electrical components, architectures, and design approaches

  • Stay informed of best practices in electrical system design for vehicle and industrial applications

Experience, Education & Training:

Experience:

  • Proficiency in electrical CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent)

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in an electrical engineering or electrical design role

  • Experience within manufacturing, automotive, rail, off‑highway, or similar vehicle / equipment sectors desirable

  • Strong understanding of:

Electrical power distribution and protection

Wiring and harness design

Electrical installation best practice

  • Experience supporting prototype builds and production release

  • Familiarity with CAN / LIN networks from an electrical wiring and integration perspective

  • High attention to detail in design and documentation

  • Experience using ERP / MRP systems for BOM creation and management

Education:

  • Minimum requirement:

HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering

    (or equivalent experience)

Training:

  • Electrical CAD software (schematics and harness design)

  • Electrical safety awareness

  • Wiring and harness design best practice

  • Training for Arcadia will be provided to design schematic and harnesses
