Electrical Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in 400kV GIS and high-voltage cable systems for a major power project in Abu Dhabi.

The successful candidate will oversee the installation, testing, commissioning, design coordination, technical compliance, and site management of 400kV GIS and high-voltage cable systems. Candidates with experience in Siemens or Hitachi GIS systems, combined-cycle power plants, substations, and TAQA projects will be strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning of 400kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems.

• Coordinate GIS equipment activities involving Siemens, Hitachi, or other major OEMs.

• Supervise precision installation, leveling, busbar connections, SF6 vacuuming and filling, moisture testing, gas-tightness testing, interlocking, partial-discharge testing, and system commissioning.

• Manage the complete execution of 400kV high-voltage cable works, including cable laying, termination, jointing, cross-bonding systems, and grounding.

• Coordinate insulation, withstand-voltage, sheath, and other high-voltage testing activities.

• Review electrical drawings, specifications, technical submissions, and design documents for GIS and high-voltage cable systems.

• Coordinate with engineering teams regarding design changes, technical clarifications, and optimization.

• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, TAQA, EPC, and project-specific technical standards.

• Coordinate directly with the Employer, Consultant, third-party testing agencies, and equipment manufacturers.

• Prepare and review high-voltage construction method statements, testing procedures, and high-risk work plans.

• Monitor electrical construction activities for safety, quality, and progress.

• Control high-risk activities including SF6 handling, high-voltage testing, and work at height.

• Support system energization, subsystem commissioning, full plant start-up, and grid connection.

• Troubleshoot electrical equipment and system defects during construction and commissioning.

• Prepare and maintain construction records, test reports, commissioning documentation, and technical close-out records.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Strong hands-on experience with 400kV GIS and high-voltage cable systems.

• Experience in installation, testing, and commissioning of Siemens or Hitachi GIS systems is highly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of SF6 handling procedures and GIS commissioning requirements.

• Good understanding of 400kV cable installation, termination, jointing, testing, and acceptance requirements.

• Experience with combined-cycle gas turbine power plants is preferred.

• Substation EPC project experience is highly desirable.

• Strong knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards.

• Familiarity with TAQA technical requirements and project procedures is an advantage.

• Able to independently review drawings, coordinate engineering matters, prepare technical procedures, and solve site issues.

• Good written and spoken English.

• Strong site coordination and problem-solving skills.

• Able to work effectively under pressure in a large EPC project environment.
