Job Summary:

We are seeking a commercially minded and technically capable Estimation Engineer to join our estimating team. The successful candidate will prepare accurate, competitive and compliant estimates and quotations for fire door systems and associated hardware, supporting the commercial and projects teams.

Key Responsibilities – Estimation, Commercial Support & Stakeholder Communication

  • Prepare detailed costed estimates and tender submissions including doorsets, frames, ironmongery schedules and ancillary items, ensuring compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Analyse enquiries and tender documentation to develop scope of works, identify risks, clarifications and assumptions, and produce transparent commercial breakdowns that support decision making.

  • Work closely with sales, project engineering, design and supply chain to verify material, labour and subcontract costs, obtain supplier quotations and validate buildability and programme implications.

  • Develop and present tender responses, value engineering options and alternative solutions to clients and internal stakeholders to improve win rates and margin performance.

  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing models, assumptions and correspondence within the company’s CRM and estimating systems to support auditability and future bids.

  • Support pre‑sales activities including site visits, technical clarifications, client meetings and presentations to secure orders and build strong client relationships.

  • Identify technical or commercial issues during the estimating process, propose pragmatic solutions and escalate where necessary to protect programme, cost and compliance outcomes.

  • Keep up to date with fire safety legislation, relevant standards (e.g. BS EN, Building Regulations), product developments and market pricing to ensure estimates remain competitive and compliant.

Qualifications & Experience – Estimating, Sales Support & Technical Proficiency

  • Relevant technical qualification in building services, fire protection, construction or engineering is desirable.

  • Typically2–5 years’ experience in estimating or commercial roles within the fire door, passive fire protection or building fabric sectors, with demonstrable experience producing accurate tender returns.

  • Proven selling skills with experience supporting pre‑sales activity, preparing proposals and presenting commercial solutions to clients.

  • Strong technical knowledge of fire doors, frames, ironmongery and installation methods, plus an understanding of relevant standards and statutory requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrable problem‑solving mindset with the ability to analyse issues, propose pragmatic solutions and implement changes that improve estimate accuracy and commercial outcomes.

  • Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets and CRM/project management systems; experience with CAD drawings and site survey information is advantageous.

  • Valid driving licence and willingness to attend site visits and supplier meetings as required.
