Field Project Engineer

** About the role **

When the grid is stressed, our customers get paid to help. Most run their backup generators; a few simply turn down load. You'll run the projects that make that possible, from the first customer kickoff to go-live, for the sites in your home region.

Licensed electrical contractors do the installs. You scope the work, direct the contractors, keep everyone informed, and verify the result. It's mostly technical project management, but you'll be onsite regularly and should be comfortable getting hands-on: troubleshooting a controller, swapping a modem, or checking wiring when a site needs it.

It's also a ground-floor role. You'll help shape the playbooks, contractor network, and alerting that let us deploy faster every year.

Responsibilities **

• Lead each deployment from kickoff to go-live: site survey, scope, contractor scheduling, installation, testing, and handoff.

• Run several projects at once, keeping customers, contractors, utilities, and the AGent team aligned on dates and next steps.

• Direct licensed contractors and review their work against our install standards before sign-off.

• Validate every site before go-live: hardware connected, data flowing to our platform, and a successful test.

• Work with utilities on meter and data access, and build relationships with key utility contacts.

• Keep sites healthy after go-live: respond to hardware and connectivity alerts, coordinate repairs, and track issues to closure.

• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, wiring, and connectivity issues onsite, hands-on when needed.

• Be the go-to technical contact for customers, and help our sales team scope sites and set realistic timelines.

• Improve our kickoff checklist, install standards, and alert runbook, and feed field lessons back to our engineering team.

** Qualifications ** **

Must Have

• A track record of managing several field projects at the same time, coordinating customers, subcontractors, and internal teams to hit dates. This usually comes from 3–6 years in generator service, project engineering, commissioning, controls, or electrical contracting. Your title matters less than what you delivered.

• Clear, proactive communication with customers, in person and in writing. You drive deliverables to done without being chased.

• You live in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin, have a valid driver's license, and can travel about one week a month (closer to two during each market's peak season).

• Comfortable doing hands-on technical work on-site, safely and within your training.

Preferred

• Working knowledge of commercial or industrial standby generators and automatic transfer switches (ATS): you can scope a site, read one-line and control wiring diagrams, and spot problems in a contractor's work.

• Experience in demand response, virtual power plants, or energy services.

• Experience with utility metering, meter data, or utility program staff.

• Building-controls or telemetry experience (BAS, Modbus, cellular gateways).

• Relationships with electrical contractors or generator service providers in your region.

A degree is welcome but not required. If you love running technical field projects, apply even if you don't check every box.
