Ultimus Engineering, LLC is seeking a hands-on, analytical, and business-minded Finance Manager to oversee the company’s financial operations and support continued growth. This position will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash-flow management, accounts receivable and payable, project financial performance, payroll coordination, and financial controls.

The Finance Manager will work closely with company leadership and project teams to provide accurate financial information, identify opportunities to improve profitability, and help ensure projects and the overall business remain financially healthy.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Manage day-to-day accounting and financial operations.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.

Monitor revenue, expenses, gross margins, profitability, and cash flow.

Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with applicable accounting standards.

Establish and maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures.

Provide financial analysis and recommendations to executive leadership.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead the annual budgeting and financial planning process.

Develop rolling forecasts and cash-flow projections.

Monitor actual results against budgets and investigate significant variances.

Develop financial models to support hiring, equipment, technology, and business-growth decisions.

Assist leadership with evaluating the financial impact of new projects, clients, contracts, and strategic initiatives.

Project & Client Financial Management

Monitor project budgets, billing, revenue recognition, costs, and profitability.

Partner with project managers to identify financial risks and opportunities.

Track project performance and provide timely financial reporting.

Review contracts, billing terms, change orders, and other financial provisions.

Oversee timely and accurate client invoicing.

Monitor accounts receivable and support collection efforts.

Accounts Payable, Receivable & Cash Management

Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

Manage vendor payments and maintain appropriate approval controls.

Monitor outstanding receivables and improve collection cycles.

Prepare cash-flow forecasts and manage working-capital needs.

Reconcile bank, credit-card, and other financial accounts.

Payroll, Tax & Compliance

Coordinate payroll processing and payroll-related accounting.

Work with external accountants, tax professionals, and other advisors as needed.

Assist with federal, state, and local tax filings and compliance.

Support year-end close, tax preparation, audits, and financial reviews.

Maintain appropriate documentation and financial records.

Business Operations & Leadership Support

Develop and improve financial processes as the company grows.

Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting and administrative workflows.

Provide leadership with actionable financial insights rather than simply reporting historical results.

Assist with strategic planning and business-development decisions.

Maintain confidentiality of company, employee, client, and financial information.

Perform other financial and operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

5+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably in a professional-services, engineering, construction, or project-based organization.

Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and project profitability.

Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, reconciliations, and month-end close.

Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and project teams.

High level of integrity, accuracy, discretion, and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional credential.

Experience working with an engineering, architecture, construction, or other professional-services firm.

Experience with project accounting and utilization/profitability analysis.

Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and financial processes.

Experience supporting a rapidly growing small or mid-sized business.

Familiarity with professional-services billing, timekeeping, project costing, and contract management.

Pay: $132,149.63 - $186,889.88 per year
