About the Role

As our Financial Accountant, you'll be responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial accounting across the Retro Traffic group.

From managing month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations through to statutory compliance, audit support and process improvement initiatives, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of our finance function.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working with data, has exceptional attention to detail and takes pride in producing accurate financial information.

Our finance function remains highly hands-on, with processes managed through accounting systems, Excel and AI-powered tools. This role offers genuine scope to influence how we work and improve efficiency across the business.

Key Responsibilities

As our Financial Accountant, you will:

  • Manage financial accounting across multiple entities within the group.

  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Process month-end journals and support month-end close activities.

  • Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations.

  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals and depreciation.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly financial and operational reporting.

  • Assist with management reporting, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.

  • Support BAS preparation and lodgement requirements.

  • Assist with year-end reporting and statutory financial statement preparation.

  • Support external audit requirements, including preparation of workpapers and audit responses.

  • Source, analyse and validate financial and operational data from multiple systems.

  • Calculate and reconcile client charges, fuel rebates and rise-and-fall adjustments using EXCEL.

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external accountants.

  • Contribute to finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Utilise AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen in day-to-day work to drive greater efficiency and accuracy.

  • Use EXCEL and AI LLM tools to streamline and add efficiency to manual finance processes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Australian Citizen or Permanent residency status essential (We are not providing sponsorship for this position).

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

  • CPA or CA qualification, or be actively working towards completion.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting or financial accounting roles.

  • Strong understanding of Australian accounting principles and tax compliance.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including dynamic-array functions (XLOOKUP, FILTER, UNIQUE, GROUPBY, PIVOTBY, TRIMRANGE), advanced formulas (SUMIFS, AGGREGATE, INDIRECT) and modern functions (LAMBDA, LET).

  • Experience preparing financial reports and reconciliations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset.

  • Confident adopting AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen to work smarter and drive process improvement.

  • Experience with Xero, MYOB AccountRight or Acumatica (desirable).
