About the Company

Halo X Labs is building HALO Chip, a subdermal GPS and health-tracking implant for dogs. We're early-stage and currently raising, building out our founding technical team.

About the Role

We're looking for a Founding AI/ML Engineer to own the training and development of the two AI models that run directly on our device: a motion classifier for dead-reckoning location tracking, and a health classifier for fever and heatstroke detection. You'll work closely with our Head of Development, who owns AI strategy and firmware integration, while you own the hands-on model work: data, training, and getting these models small and accurate enough to run on a constrained, ultra-low-power microcontroller.

Responsibilities

Training data pipeline for both models, working with labeled sensor logs from bench and live-animal testing
Motion classifier development: gait and activity classification from motion sensor data
Health classifier development: fever and heatstroke detection from temperature and activity data
Model training, quantization, and compilation using Edge Impulse, targeting deployment on TensorFlow Lite Micro
Working directly with our Head of Development to integrate trained models into firmware and validate them against real power and memory budgets

Qualifications

Real experience training and deploying models for constrained hardware, TinyML / embedded ML, not just cloud-scale ML
Comfortable working with real-world sensor data (motion, temperature) rather than clean benchmark datasets
Experience with, or fast to pick up, Edge Impulse or a comparable embedded ML tooling workflow
A startup-stage mindset: this role exists before there's much training data yet, you'll help define how it gets collected and structured, not just consume it
Comfortable working directly with a non-technical CEO and a small founding team

Pay range and compensation package

This is a founding, equity-only role equity in Halo X Labs. We are currently raising, and salary will begin shortly after you join, once funding closes.
