Founding Mobile Engineer (iOS)
CGS
Job description
Founding Mobile Engineer (iOS)
San Francisco Bay Area | $120,000–$200,000 base | Full-time | In-office
We’re looking for a Founding Mobile Engineer to join an early-stage AI music company backed by Stanford StartX and leading investors.
The company has already attracted 150,000+ users across 150 countries, growing organically at an impressive pace. Its technology transforms audio and YouTube links into accurate sheet music, MIDI, MusicXML, tabs and interactive piano rolls across multiple instruments.
This is a genuine 0→1 opportunity where you’ll have significant ownership over the mobile product and help shape the engineering culture from the beginning.
The Role
You’ll own the mobile experience end-to-end. The product is currently iOS-only, and you’ll take ownership of the existing mobile codebase while helping build the next generation of the product including Android and new AI-powered learning experiences.
This is a product-focused engineering role. Technical depth matters, but strong product intuition, design taste and the ability to move quickly are equally important.
You’ll be responsible for creating an app that feels great to use from UX and performance to haptics and the small details that make a product stand out.
What You'll Own
-
Build and own the mobile application from 0→1
-
Take ownership of the existing iOS codebase and contribute to the future Android application
-
Build core infrastructure including authentication, payments, databases and APIs
-
Translate product ideas, specifications and designs into production quickly
-
Use user feedback and product data to continuously improve the experience
-
Own the mobile UX end-to-end, including interaction, haptics and overall product quality
-
Help establish mobile engineering practices and, over time, mentor junior engineers
What We're Looking For
-
Product-minded full-stack mobile engineer
-
Experience with React Native, Swift, Kotlin or similar technologies
-
Comfortable working with modern frontend technologies such as Next.js and Tailwind
-
Backend experience, ideally with Supabase
-
Experience with authentication, payments, database design and API integration
-
Strong product and design intuition
-
Ability to move quickly while making thoughtful technical decisions
-
Strong first-principles thinking and the confidence to challenge ideas constructively
-
Comfortable taking ownership and working with minimal hand-holding
Experience
We’re more interested in what you’ve built than how many years you’ve worked. Candidates with roughly 0–4 years of experience are encouraged to apply, with around 1–2 years being a typical range. Exceptional candidates with less experience are absolutely welcome if they have impressive work to show.
We’re looking for people who:
-
Stay current with modern engineering practices and AI tooling
-
Have built and shipped real products
-
Take ownership of their work
-
Care deeply about product quality and user experience
Nice to Have
-
You play an instrument or have a genuine passion for music
-
Experience with MIDI or MusicXML
-
Game development or learning-software experience
-
Experience building polished consumer applications
-
Multidisciplinary technical or creative background
Who Will Thrive Here?
This role will suit someone who:
-
Wants to own a mobile product used by 150,000+ musicians
-
Gets excited about building products from scratch
-
Cares about how an app feels, not just whether it works
-
Is a strong generalist and first-principles thinker
-
Has high product taste and attention to detail
-
Is passionate about music and technology
-
Enjoys a fast-paced, highly collaborative startup environment
Interview Process
-
Introductory call with the CTO
-
Take-home UX/UI project
-
Product interview focused on design and product decisions
-
Technical interview with live coding or system design
-
Behavioral interview with the broader team
-
Final conversation with the CEO
