Position Summary

P37 is a vertically integrated New Mexico cannabis company: cultivation, manufacturing, and retail locations across the state. We are looking for an accountant who can own the books end to end and turn the numbers into decisions leadership can act on.

Reporting directly to our CFO, a CPA with deep cannabis industry experience, you will run day-to-day accounting in QuickBooks Online, own month-end close, and deliver financials within 10 business days of month end, every month.

You do not need cannabis experience to succeed here. You need to be a disciplined accountant who owns a close and can explain the numbers. Our CFO will teach you the cannabis-specific dynamics: 280E and COGS allocation, seed-to-sale reconciliation, excise tax, and cash controls. That is a real skill set to build under someone who has done it, and it stays with you for the rest of your career.

This is a hands-on seat with full ownership and direct CFO and leadership exposure. You will not be one of ten people in an accounting department, you’ll be the one.

Core Responsibilities

Full Cycle Accounting

Own daily accounting operations in QuickBooks Online: AP, AR, cash application, vendor management, and general ledger maintenance.
Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, payroll, and recurring allocations.
Process payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll data from Uzio to the general ledger.
Perform bank, credit card, and cash reconciliations across all locations.
Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure consistent, accurate coding across all locations and business units.
Manage vendor onboarding, W-9 collection, payment scheduling, and 1099 preparation.

Month-End Close

Own and execute the month-end close calendar with a hard commitment: books closed and financials delivered within 7 business days of month end.
Prepare full balance sheet reconciliations with supporting schedules for every material account.
Identify and resolve reconciling items before close, not after.
Continuously tighten the process. Document what is manual, standardize or automate what can be, and protect the 7-day timeline as the business grows.

Financial Analysis and Reporting

Produce monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements consolidated and by location and business unit.
Deliver variance analysis against budget and prior period with written commentary that explains the drivers, not just the deltas.
Build and maintain recurring reporting for leadership: revenue, gross margin, discount impact, labor, inventory turns, and shrink.
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and rolling cash flow projections.
Model pricing, promotion, and discount scenarios and quantify margin impact before decisions are made.

Inventory and Cost Accounting

Own inventory accounting and COGS across cultivation, manufacturing, and retail.
Reconcile inventory between Leafnet, our seed-to-sale and point-of-sale platform, and the general ledger. Investigate and resolve variances.
Support standard costing for cultivated and manufactured products, including transfer pricing between business units.
Analyze shrink, waste, and product loss, and partner with operations on corrective action.

Compliance and Controls (with CFO guidance and training)

Support state and local tax filings, cannabis excise tax, and New Mexico regulatory reporting.
Learn and apply COGS allocation methodology and 280E documentation standards under CFO direction.
Maintain internal controls over cash handling, inventory, and segregation of duties in a cash-intensive, multi-location environment.
Prepare workpapers and supporting schedules for external CPAs, tax preparers, and auditors.
Document accounting processes and maintain current SOPs.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3 or more years of full cycle accounting experience with direct ownership of month-end close.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including AP/AR workflows and journal entry preparation.
Strong Excel skills: pivot tables, lookups, and building analysis from raw data exports.
Working knowledge of GAAP.
Ability to explain financial results clearly to non-financial operators.
Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn a complex, highly regulated industry.
Must be 21 or older and able to pass a state-required background check.

Preferred

Inventory or cost accounting experience in retail, restaurant, CPG, distribution, or manufacturing.
Experience in a vertically integrated business with intercompany or interdepartmental cost flows.
Multi-location accounting experience.
Experience reconciling POS or operational system data to the general ledger.
Cannabis industry experience is a plus but is not required. We will train the right person.
CPA, CMA, or active progress toward either.

What Success Looks Like

30 days: You understand the business, the systems, and the current close process. You complete one close cycle with CFO support and can articulate where the process breaks down.
90 days: You own the close independently and deliver financials within 7 business days with variance commentary.
6 months: Balance sheet accounts reconcile cleanly every month, Leafnet inventory ties to the GL, and leadership has recurring reporting they use to run the business.
12 months: You are fluent in the cannabis-specific accounting requirements and carry them without day-to-day CFO oversight.
