Flashpass is an EdTech company with a big mission - to solve AI-induced unemployment in America, which is set to impact 25% - 40% of the labor force in the next five years.

Through the Flashpass platform, governments pay for users who lose their jobs to AI to be reskilled and placed at employers. Users can earn certificates in anything from cybersecurity to working on oil wells. We run our partner schools on it ourselves, all served by one Express API, a React student portal, and a React admin dashboard on Google Cloud. You can see how it looks by watching this demo .

This is a full-stack role. You will be responsible for backend, frontend, and the infrastructure underneath, rather than being handed one layer. The team is small, the codebase is mature, and you would be shipping features in your first week.

You'll be joining at an ideal time: Flashpass has grown to $4M in revenue in the last year. We havepartnered with NVIDIA & Khan Academy, and recently raised a round backed by top investors like J2 Ventures to expand outside of Ohio.

Responsibilities:

Build and maintain features across the API, the student portal, and the admin dashboard.
Design MongoDB schemas and write migrations that run safely against production data.
Own an area end to end, from spec to deploy to verification: lifecycle email automations, payments, credentials, or reporting.
Keep data scoped to the right school and permissions correct in every query and every screen.
Deploy and operate services on Cloud Run, and modernize legacy code as you touch it.

Requirements:

3+ years shipping production JavaScript and TypeScript on both Node/Express backends and React frontends.
Solid MongoDB experience: schema design, indexing, and aggregation.
Comfort working in a large codebase you didn’t write, and changing it safely.
Care around authentication, user data, and payment flows.
Clear written communication and the judgement to ask the questions that matter before building.

Bonus:

Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Build, GCS) and Terraform.
GraphQL, transactional email and deliverability, or payments integrations such as Stripe Connect.
Edtech, LMS, or online education products.
Experience working under SOC 2, building or maintaining controls such as audit logging, access reviews, least-privilege access to production, encryption of data at rest and in transit, change management and code review policy, vendor review, and incident response. Having been through a Type II audit and produced evidence for it is a real plus.
