Job description

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Grid Compliance:

  • HIL Simulation & Testing:

Architect, develop, and maintain Control Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) and Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) test environments utilizing

    RTDS

    (RSCAD) and

    OPAL-RT

    (HYPERSIM/RT-LAB) platforms.

  • Grid Code Verification:

Lead the verification of BESS and PV inverter controls to ensure compliance with diverse international grid connection requirements (e.g., IEEE 1547, VDE-AR-N 4110/4120, ER G99, NEM, etc.).

  • Model Validation:

Oversee the development and validation of dynamic plant models, including inverter models, battery models, and Power Plant Controller (PPC) logic.

  • Test Automation:

Drive the implementation of automated testing frameworks (using Python or similar) to streamline compliance testing and improve lab efficiency.

  • Troubleshooting:

Act as the highest point of technical escalation for complex control, communication (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850), and grid integration issues discovered during HIL testing.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Marketing:

  • Technical Marketing Support:

Actively support technical marketing activities by providing empirical simulation data, contributing to technical whitepapers, and leveraging the lab's capabilities to build brand authority.

  • Client Demonstrations:

Host laboratory tours and conduct live HIL capability demonstrations for prospective clients, utility partners, and key stakeholders to showcase our grid compliance and technology readiness.

  • Sales Enablement:

Collaborate with sales and proposal teams to answer complex technical inquiries regarding grid interconnection and control capabilities during the bidding phase.

Laboratory Management:

  • Facility Operations:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the HIL lab, ensuring all simulation hardware, I/O interfaces, and amplifiers are calibrated, maintained, and safely operated.

  • Resource Allocation:

Schedule and prioritize lab test benches across multiple overlapping, high-stakes grid connection projects to meet tight project deadlines.

  • Team Leadership:

Hire, mentor, and train a team of HIL/Simulation Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Budgeting & Procurement:

Manage the laboratory budget, forecast hardware/software needs, and spearhead the procurement of new simulation equipment and licenses.

  • Safety & Standards:

Ensure all laboratory operations comply with strict electrical safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Control Systems, or a closely related field.

  • 5+ years

of hands-on experience in power systems simulation, HIL testing, or inverter controls validation.

  • 2+ years

of experience in a leadership, managerial, or principal engineer role.
