Job description
About Makeable
Makeable is a San Francisco based company backed by Afore Capital. We are building software that turns a plain-language idea into compatible electronics, printable 3D geometry, code, and a clear build guide.
The role
This is a paid, full-time, 12-week internship starting in November 2026. You will give AI-generated hardware products strong physical form, clear interaction, and geometry that can actually be printed and assembled.
What you will do
Design enclosures and physical products around exact electronics, connector access, assembly order, and component clearances.
Create CAD models and prototypes that respect 3D-printing constraints, fit, strength, tolerances, and finish.
Develop distinct form, proportion, surface, colour, and interaction directions instead of generic generated shapes.
Test assemblies with real parts and turn failures into reusable design rules for Makeable's software.
Collaborate with software and hardware engineers so generated products are attractive, understandable, and manufacturable.
What we are looking for
A strong industrial or product design portfolio showing physical-product taste and finished prototypes.
Fluency in SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, Onshape, or an equivalent 3D CAD tool.
Hands-on experience with 3D printers, iteration, tolerances, assembly, and design for manufacture.
Some exposure to software, interaction design, computational design, electronics, or hardware interfaces.
Clear evidence of what you personally designed, built, tested, and improved.
Location and pay
San Francisco is preferred, with a hybrid working setup. We may consider exceptional remote candidates based in the United States or Singapore. Relocation to San Francisco is welcomed, and visa support may be considered.
Pay is USD 19.61 to USD 20.20 per hour, based on 40 hours per week. Strong interns may be considered for a later full-time role, with compensation and equity discussed then.
Application
Include a portfolio showing physical products and 3D-printed prototypes. For one project, explain what you personally designed, how you tested it, what failed, and what changed.
Pay: $19.61 - $20.20 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Work Location: Hybrid remote in San Francisco, CA 94107
