Junior AI Engineer

Data Next Step builds NextIT, an all-in-one platform for compliance, security, IT governance, and cybersecurity. AI is not a feature we added on top, it is the engine doing the functional work behind the platform. We are looking for a junior AI engineer to help design and build that engine.

Core responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement AI systems end to end agentic AI, AI agents, and multi-agent systems.

• Build and refine agent harnesses: orchestration, tool use, memory, control flow, and the evaluation loops that make agents reliable in production.

• Develop AI tooling and MCP servers/integrations that connect our agents to the platform and to client environments.

• Implement and maintain the backend services these systems run on APIs, data flows, and integration layers.

Additional responsibilities

• Contribute to prompt and context engineering, and to systematic evaluation of agent performance.

• Embed AI capabilities into NextIT's compliance, security, and IT governance workflows.

• Document architectures and design decisions clearly enough for the team to build on them.

• Track a fast-moving field and bring back what is genuinely useful.

What we require

• Strong, understanding of AI engineering LLMs, agentic patterns, and how these systems actually behave.

• Strong working knowledge of the AI engineering toolchain, including agent and orchestration frameworks, retrieval and context management, and evaluation tooling. We care that you can pick the right tool and use it well, not that you know a specific one.

• Real backend development experience (Python and/or C# .NET and/or TypeScript).

• Production discipline. Version control, containers, CI/CD, and cloud deployment. Building a demo is not the same as shipping a system.

• An AI security mindset. Awareness of prompt injection, tool permission boundaries, and the safe handling of client data. This is non negotiable given what we build.

• Hardworking, ambitious, and a genuine team player.
