Job description

About Xyall

Xyall develops the Tissector, an instrument that automates tissue dissection for molecular pathology. It locates the tumor area marked by a pathologist on a glass slide and collects the selected tissue for molecular testing. Our systems are used in research laboratories and hospitals around the world.

About the role

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will join a small software team working on software that interacts directly with physical devices, cameras and laboratory systems. Your work will include developing new functionality, testing it on our instruments and investigating issues across software and hardware.

We are open to both recent graduates with strong programming experience from university or personal projects and junior engineers with a few years of professional experience. What matters most is that you have a good foundation in Python, are curious about how things work and want to develop beyond purely web-based software.

You will work closely with experienced engineers and gradually take ownership of larger parts of the system. Because working with and testing on our instruments is an important part of the role, this position is based on-site at our Eindhoven office.

Tasks & responsibilities

·      Develop and maintain software components in Python and .NET, with guidance from experienced engineers.

·      Write unit and developer-level tests and test your work on Xyall's physical systems.

·      Investigate and debug software issues found during development, system integration, testing and at customer sites.

·      Work with software that interacts with cameras, hardware components and laboratory systems.

·      Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback from other engineers.

·      Keep your work traceable through code, tests and technical documentation in line with our medical-device development process.

·      Work closely with colleagues in Software, Hardware, Quality and Service to bring functionality from requirement to release.

·      Use approved AI tools to support development, testing, analysis and documentation while remaining responsible for the quality and correctness of your work.

·      Contribute ideas for improving our software, testing and development processes.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Hands-on programming experience with Python, gained through professional experience, internships, university projects or personal projects.

  • Up to approximately 3 years of professional software development experience. Recent graduates are welcome to apply.

  • A good understanding of software development fundamentals, debugging and testing.

  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development.

  • Interest in working with software that interacts with physical systems and hardware, rather than purely web-based applications.

  • Good English communication skills; Dutch is a plus.

  • Experience with C#/.NET, embedded systems, robotics, computer vision, industrial automation or regulated software development is an advantage, but not required.

Who are you

You are curious and eager to learn. When you don't know something, you investigate, experiment and ask questions rather than waiting for someone to give you the answer.

You enjoy solving problems and understanding how things work beyond the software itself. You're comfortable when not everything is defined in advance and can adapt when priorities change.

At the same time, you work carefully and understand that when software is part of a medical device, reliable code, testing and documentation matter.

You enjoy working with others but are also able to take ownership of a task and make progress independently.

What we offer

·      The opportunity to develop software that runs on real medical devices used in cancer research and molecular pathology.

·      Close collaboration with experienced software engineers and specialists from Hardware, Quality and Service.

·      Modern AI coding tools as part of the development workflow within a controlled engineering process.

·      A small team where your contribution is visible and where you can gradually take ownership of larger parts of the system.

·      Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
