Job description

Lead Accountant / Client Accounting Manager

Koss Accounting Solutions LLC

Position Overview

Koss Accounting Solutions is seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented Lead Accountant / Client Accounting Manager to manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of small to mid-sized business clients. This is not a traditional bookkeeping or transaction-entry position. We need someone who understands the complete accounting cycle and can take ownership of a client's financials from day-to-day activity through month-end close and financial statement review.

The ideal candidate will operate as an accounting lead for assigned clients—understanding their financial activity, identifying inconsistencies or concerns, proactively communicating issues, and ensuring their books are complete, accurate, reconciled, and ready for management and tax reporting. This person will work closely with the owner and become a key part of preparing the accounting team for continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for multiple client companies simultaneously.

  • Record, review, and properly classify banking and credit-card activity.

  • Manage and/or oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • Perform bank, credit-card, loan, payroll, and balance-sheet reconciliations.

  • Complete month-end close procedures and ensure accounts are properly supported.

  • Review the entire balance sheet and profit & loss statement—not simply confirm that transactions have been entered.

  • Investigate unusual balances, discrepancies, negative accounts, unreconciled activity, aging items, and other accounting concerns.

  • Identify and proactively raise financial or accounting red flags.

  • Perform accounting cleanup and catch-up projects, including researching historical transactions and correcting prior-period issues.

  • Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for balance-sheet accounts.

  • Prepare clean, accurate financial statements for client and management review.

  • Coordinate directly with clients to obtain missing documentation and resolve accounting questions.

  • Communicate proactively rather than waiting for issues to be discovered.

  • Maintain accurate client notes, tasks, deadlines, and follow-up items within firm workflow systems.

  • Utilize Double and other firm systems consistently to document work, monitor deadlines, and maintain visibility across client accounts.

  • Assist with developing and improving accounting procedures, checklists, and internal controls as the firm grows.

  • Provide guidance and review support to other accounting team members as responsibilities expand.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong full-cycle accounting experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of accrual and cash-basis accounting concepts.

  • Strong understanding of the balance sheet, income statement, general ledger, and how transactions flow through financial statements.

  • Significant hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online.

  • Ability to independently perform and review month-end close.

  • Strong reconciliation, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience identifying and correcting accounting errors rather than simply processing transactions.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple companies while keeping client information, deadlines, and priorities organized.

  • Ability to prioritize independently and manage the workday with minimal oversight.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication.

  • Proactive communication style and comfort raising questions, concerns, missing information, and potential problems.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Comfort working in a growing accounting environment where processes continue to evolve.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Xero experience.

  • Experience working in client accounting services, professional accounting services, public accounting, or another multi-client environment.

  • Experience with accounting cleanup and catch-up projects.

  • Experience reviewing financial statements at a senior accountant, accounting manager, or controller level.

  • Experience supervising or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff.

  • Experience supporting service businesses and/or multi-entity organizations.

What We Are Looking For

The strongest candidate will not need to be told every accounting task that needs to be completed. We want someone who can open a client's books, understand what they are looking at, determine what needs attention, prioritize the work, and follow it through to completion.

They should think beyond “Did I reconcile the bank?” and instead ask, “Do these financial statements make sense, and would I be comfortable presenting them to the business owner?”

This individual should ultimately become a trusted right-hand accounting resource who can take ownership of client relationships, help maintain the firm's quality standards, and support the development of the accounting team as Koss Accounting Solutions grows.
