DXC Technology is seeking a highly experienced and technically strong

Lead Android Engineer

to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical design, architecture, development, and optimization of advanced native Android applications with a strong focus on

mapping, visualization, graphics, and 3D rendering

.

This role requires a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in native Android development and Kotlin, combined with practical experience building custom rendering and visualization capabilities. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of 2D and 3D graphics, spatial transformations, rendering performance, and map-based or spatial visualization systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, technical design, and implementation of complex native Android applications.

  • Develop high-quality, scalable, maintainable, and highly testable Android solutions using Kotlin.

  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, engineering standards, and development best practices.

  • Design and implement custom visualization, mapping, graphics, and rendering capabilities for Android platforms.

  • Develop custom UI and rendering components using Android Canvas, Custom Views, and Jetpack Compose drawing APIs.

  • Design and implement map-like rendering systems, overlays, annotations, layers, and other spatial visualizations.

  • Work with coordinate transformations, geometry calculations, gesture matrices, spatial relationships, and hit-testing.

  • Develop efficient rendering pipelines with appropriate caching, rendering invalidation, and memory-management strategies.

  • Analyze and optimize application rendering performance using Android Studio Profiler and other performance-analysis tools.

  • Design and implement 3D visualization capabilities using Filament or comparable Android 3D rendering technologies.

  • Apply 3D graphics concepts including transformation matrices, camera models, raycasting, scene management, and spatial transformations.

  • Identify and resolve complex performance, rendering, memory, and architectural challenges.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and other technical stakeholders.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other Android engineers.

  • Contribute to engineering strategy, technical standards, and continuous improvement of development practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in

    native Android application development

    .

  • Expert-level proficiency in

    Kotlin

    .

  • Strong hands-on experience with

    Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, and RxJava

    .

  • Proven experience leading technical architecture, application design, code reviews, and engineering best practices.

  • Strong understanding of scalable, maintainable, modular, and highly testable Android application architectures.

  • Hands-on experience developing

    custom visualization, mapping, graphics, or rendering features

    .

  • Strong practical knowledge of

    Android Canvas, Custom Views, and Jetpack Compose Drawing APIs

    .

  • Strong understanding of

    coordinate transformations, geometry calculations, matrices, gesture handling, and hit-testing

    .

  • Experience developing or contributing to

    map rendering systems, overlays, annotations, or layered visualizations

    .

  • Strong knowledge of rendering optimization, caching strategies, rendering invalidation, and memory-efficient rendering.

  • Proven experience analyzing and optimizing Android rendering performance using

    Android Studio Profiler

    .

  • Production experience with

    Filament or another Android 3D rendering technology

    .

  • Strong understanding of 3D graphics fundamentals, including:

  • Transformation matrices

  • Camera models

  • Raycasting

  • Scene management

  • Spatial transformations

  • 3D coordinate systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 3D scene optimization techniques such as

    Level of Detail (LOD), batching, culling, and asynchronous asset loading

    .

  • Experience optimizing rendering performance across different Android devices and hardware capabilities.

  • Experience with

    OpenGL ES, Vulkan, Sceneform, or other graphics/rendering technologies

    .

  • Experience in

    robotics, SLAM, computer vision, AR/VR, indoor navigation, or mapping platforms

    .

  • Experience visualizing

    occupancy grids, robot navigation paths, floor plans, spatial mapping data, or geospatial information

    .

  • Experience working with geospatial, navigation, robotics, or spatial-computing applications.
