Lead Software Engineer
Freedom Logistics Service Solutions
Job description
Lead Software Engineer
Freedom Logistics Service Solutions (FLSS)
Location: Edmond, Oklahoma — Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Competitive Pay
About Freedom Logistics Service Solutions
Freedom Logistics Service Solutions (FLSS) is a rapidly growing nationwide mobile fleet maintenance and technology company focused on delivering services that are fast, efficient, and mobile.
As FLSS continues to grow, technology will play an increasingly important role in how we manage operations, serve customers, connect our field workforce, and scale nationally.
We are seeking a highly capable Lead Software Engineer to take technical ownership of FreedomFleet, our proprietary software platform, and help build the technology foundation that will support the next stage of our company.
This is not a traditional software engineering position where you will simply receive tickets and write code. We are looking for someone who wants ownership, understands the business behind the technology, and is excited about building a platform that will be used in real-world fleet operations.
Position Summary
The Lead Software Engineer will serve as the primary hands-on technical owner for FreedomFleet and other software products developed by FLSS.
Initially, this position will be heavily hands-on. You will be responsible for understanding and advancing the existing codebase while helping establish the architecture, development standards, infrastructure, security practices, and engineering processes necessary to build a scalable and dependable platform.
You will work directly with FLSS leadership and operational teams to understand real-world business challenges and translate those needs into practical technology solutions.
As our technology needs grow, this position will also play an important role in determining when additional engineering resources are needed and helping FLSS build its future engineering organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesSoftware Development & Technical Ownership
· Take technical ownership of FreedomFleet and other FLSS-developed software products.
· Lead hands-on development across backend and frontend systems.
· Understand and manage the existing codebase, architecture, databases, applications, integrations, environments, and deployment processes.
· Design, build, test, deploy, maintain, and continuously improve software systems.
· Evaluate the existing technical foundation and recommend what should be maintained, improved, redesigned, or simplified.
· Establish strong standards for architecture, coding, testing, documentation, source control, deployment, and production support.
· Balance development speed with reliability, maintainability, scalability, security, and business value.
Security, Reliability & Infrastructure
· Establish and maintain secure software-development practices.
· Implement appropriate access controls, credential management, data protection, code-review, testing, monitoring, backup, recovery, and deployment practices.
· Identify technical, security, scalability, and reliability risks before they become business problems.
· Recommend infrastructure investments, security resources, vendors, or outside expertise when appropriate.
· Help prepare FLSS technology for continued growth in customers, users, assets, transactions, and integrations.
Product & Operational Partnership
· Serve as the technical bridge between engineering, operations, and executive leadership.
· Work directly with operational teams to understand field workflows, customer requirements, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation.
· Translate operational challenges into technical requirements and practical software solutions.
· Provide technical input on product direction and challenge assumptions when a better technical approach exists.
· Maintain a strong feedback loop with the employees and customers using FLSS technology.
· Provide leadership with clear visibility into product progress, priorities, risks, and upcoming technical decisions.
Product Roadmap & Execution
· Partner with leadership and operations to establish product and engineering priorities.
· Recommend development sequencing based on business value, operational needs, customer impact, technical dependencies, security, and available resources.
· Provide realistic estimates regarding development effort, technical risk, resource requirements, and delivery expectations.
· Maintain visibility into active development, defects, technical debt, and future priorities.
· Support customer demonstrations, implementations, integrations, and technical discussions when needed.
Build the Future Engineering Team
As FLSS grows, this position will help determine what the Company’s engineering organization should become.
Responsibilities may include:
· Identifying when additional engineering resources are needed.
· Recommending future engineering positions and staffing requirements.
· Participating in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and developing future engineers.
· Establishing engineering processes, documentation, code-review standards, and knowledge-sharing practices.
· Providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, contractors, and other technical resources.
· Building systems and processes that reduce dependency on any single individual.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a builder and technical owner, not simply someone who completes assigned development tasks.
The ideal candidate will have:
· Strong professional software engineering experience.
· Experience developing and maintaining production software applications.
· Strong understanding of modern software architecture, databases, APIs, integrations, and cloud-based infrastructure.
· Experience working across both backend and frontend development.
· Strong understanding of software security, access control, data protection, testing, deployment, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
· Experience taking ownership of an existing codebase and improving it over time.
· Ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical problems.
· Ability to translate business and operational requirements into effective technical solutions.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical leadership.
· Experience with source control, documentation, testing, deployment, and production-support practices.
· Ability to prioritize effectively in a growing and fast-moving organization.
· Leadership capabilities and an interest in helping build an engineering team as the company grows.
Experience building or scaling SaaS, fleet-management, logistics, field-service, maintenance, transportation, or other operational software platforms is a plus.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means:
· FreedomFleet has clear and dependable technical ownership.
· The platform continues developing into a secure, reliable, scalable, enterprise-ready product.
· Engineering priorities remain connected to actual operational and customer needs.
· Development becomes increasingly structured, documented, tested, and predictable.
· Leadership has clear visibility into engineering progress, risks, costs, and resource requirements.
· Technology creates measurable operational efficiency and customer value.
· FLSS develops the engineering foundation and team necessary to support continued national growth.
Our Working Philosophy
FLSS values ownership, initiative, accountability, and urgency.
Ownership does not mean working unreasonable hours. It means caring about the outcome, identifying problems before being asked, communicating challenges early, following issues through resolution, and understanding the business impact of technical decisions.
We want someone who approaches FreedomFleet as an owner of the technical outcome, not simply as a developer completing assigned tasks.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt hybrid position based out of our Edmond, Oklahoma office.
The position will primarily have the flexibility to work remotely while developing and supporting FreedomFleet, with on-site collaboration required at designated times to work directly with the Executive Team and other departments.
Compensation & Benefits
FLSS offers competitive pay based on experience, technical capabilities, and demonstrated ability to lead and build software products.
Benefits include:
· Medical, dental, and vision insurance eligibility after 60 days
· 401(k) eligibility
· Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO)
· Professional development opportunities
· Hybrid work environment
· Direct access to executive leadership
· Opportunity to take ownership of a growing proprietary software platform
· Opportunity to help shape and build the Company’s future engineering organization
Why Join FLSS?
This is an opportunity to do more than maintain someone else’s software.
You will have the opportunity to help shape a technology platform around a growing national operation, work directly with the people using the product in the field, influence major technical and product decisions, and ultimately help build the engineering organization behind it.
If you are a strong hands-on engineer who wants meaningful ownership and the opportunity to build, lead, and scale technology alongside a growing company, we want to hear from you.
