Job description
Management Accountant – Visitor Experience
Who we are
The new Sydney Fish Market (nSFM) is the southern hemisphere’s largest fish market, one of Australia’s most visited attractions, and the beating heart of the nation’s seafood industry.
With a-once-in-a-generation precinct that redefines the retail, dining, and wholesale experience on Sydney’s waterfront now in operation, we are looking for a Management Accountant – Visitor Experience to support the Chief Experience Officers' Business Unit, which encompasses Sydney Seafood School, Visitor Experience Tours and the Marketing budget.
If you enjoy a fast-paced, high-profile environment and have a knack for stakeholder coordination and problem-solving—this is a great opportunity to join a small Finance team.
The Opportunity
Sydney Fish Market's Visitor Experience business is one of the most dynamic parts of our organisation, and we're looking for a forward-thinking Management Accountant to help shape its next chapter.
This isn't a back-office numbers role. You'll get close to the action: digging into what drives performance across the business, and turning that insight into recommendations that genuinely shape how we grow. If you want a seat at the table in a fast-growing, customer-facing part of the business, this is it.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, with a dotted line to the Chief Experience Officer, you will:
• Deliver decision-ready financial reporting for the Business Unit.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and well-controlled revenue recognition across all sales channels.
• Analyse financial performance to identify what's working best – and help decide what's next.
• Champion strong financial governance and compliance across the business.
• Drive the financial planning and performance management that keeps pace with a growing business.
• Take genuine ownership of outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
Who you are
You're a commercially curious accountant who wants more than routine reporting – someone genuinely excited to partner with the teams on the ground, and to see the direct impact of your work. Experience in hospitality, tourism, retail, or events will help you add value from day one as our Visitor Experience footprint continues to grow.
You will have:
• Preference to work onsite 5 days a week (with optional one day WFH Tues-Thurs available).
• A qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CA/CPA or equivalent).
• Strong experience in financial and management accounting, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
• A sharp eye for detail and accuracy, with strong numerical and reconciliation skills.
• The organisational and time management skills to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Confident, effective communication and stakeholder management.
• A high level of integrity and accountability.
• Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. TechOne, Dynamics 365 Business Central) and strong Excel skills.
• Hospitality, tourism, retail, or events experience – highly regarded as our Visitor Experience business continues to grow.
• National Police Record Check and Finance Background check (or approval for SFM to conduct background check).
What’s in it for you?
Once in a lifetime opportunity to work in a truly dynamic site-based environment where you will build on strengths and change the way we deliver for our stakeholders.
If you are a strong team player with a service focused and problem-solving mindset we want to hear from you, so apply now!
