Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer – Low Voltage Switchgear to join our Engineering & Design team. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in mechanical design and manufacturing of LV switchgear and power distribution systems, with practical knowledge of MDBs, SMDBs, MCCs, ATS Panels, FDBs, Control Panels, Package Substations, and Unit Substations.

The candidate should have hands-on expertise in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD 2D/3D, sheet metal design, copper busbar design, 3D modeling, assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, BOM preparation, and production support.

Experience in the Qatar/GCC LV switchgear manufacturing industry is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare mechanical designs for IEC-range LV power distribution systems, including:
MDBs
SMDBs
MCCs
ATS Panels
FDBs
Control Panels
Package Substations
Unit Substations
Prepare detailed General Arrangement (GA), busbar, sheet metal, assembly, fabrication, and manufacturing drawings.
Develop drawings using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD 2D/3D, and other relevant design tools.
Design copper busbars considering rated current, short-circuit withstand, temperature rise, electrical clearances, supports, joints, and manufacturing requirements.
Design sheet metal components including:
Enclosures
Doors
Mounting plates
Partitions
Covers
Structural and mechanical components
Prepare accurate 3D models, sheet metal models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and fabrication drawings suitable for production.
Prepare complete production documentation, including approved drawings, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, component schedules, and related documents.
Prepare technical drawings and document submittals for customer/consultant approval.
Develop and maintain standard drawings, component libraries, manufacturing drawing databases, and standardized BOM formats.
Coordinate closely with Electrical Design to ensure proper busbar arrangements, equipment mounting, electrical clearances, cable termination space, accessibility, and maintainability.
Coordinate with Estimation, Projects, Production, Fabrication, Procurement, Quality, and Testing teams to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
Support production and assembly teams in resolving fabrication and assembly issues.
Identify opportunities for design improvements, product standardization, and manufacturing efficiency.

Qualifications & Requirements

B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design.
Minimum 5 years of experience in the same or similar role, preferably within Qatar/GCC LV switchgear manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of applicable IEC Standards and relevant Qatar/GCC end-user and consultant specifications.
Practical design experience with LV switchgear systems from Siemens, Eaton, ABB, Schneider Electric, or equivalent major manufacturers.
Strong knowledge of LV panels, including MDBs, SMDBs, MCCs, ATS Panels, FDBs, and Control Panels.
Good knowledge of IEC 61439-1 & IEC 61439-2 requirements applicable to the mechanical construction of LV Switchgear and Controlgear Assemblies.
Strong practical experience in copper busbar design, including sizing, arrangement, supports, joints, clearances, and manufacturing.
Strong experience in sheet metal design for enclosures, doors, partitions, mounting plates, covers, and structural components.
Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as:
Laser cutting
CNC punching
Bending
Welding
Machining
Surface finishing
Assembly
Tooling
Good knowledge of mechanical clearances, tolerances, fastening methods, manufacturability, accessibility, and maintenance requirements for LV switchgear.

Software Skills

Autodesk Inventor – Hands-on experience required
AutoCAD 2D/3D – Hands-on experience required
Strong 3D modeling skills
Sheet metal modeling and design
Assembly modeling
Manufacturing and fabrication drawings
BOM preparation
MS Office – good working knowledge
