Job description

KA Imaging develops advanced X-ray imaging systems for the medical, veterinary, defence, scientific, and industrial markets, with the vision of "innovative X-ray everywhere." We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design, prototype, test, and bring to production the hardware behind our imaging products.

This is a hands-on role for someone strong in SolidWorks, who enjoys building and testing real hardware, and who wants to use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve design productivity and quality.

Mission: To enable our employees the freedom to innovate and create high performance products for our customers, using cutting edge advances in X-ray technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • All Design mechanical components, enclosures, structures, fixtures, and assemblies in SolidWorks, including 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs

  • Design for manufacturability, assembly, reliability, serviceability, and cost; select materials and manage revision control of parts and assemblies

  • Build, test, and troubleshoot mock-ups, prototypes, test fixtures, and production parts using 3D printing, machining, sheet metal, and other rapid-prototyping methods

  • Own incoming inspection and quality control of mechanical parts: define critical dimensions, tolerances, and inspection criteria on drawings; verify supplier parts and assemblies against drawings and specifications using appropriate metrology; document non-conformances; and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions with suppliers

  • Perform mechanical testing (drop, impact, vibration, durability, dimensional, fit, and functional), investigate failures, and implement design improvements

  • Lead and participate in design reviews; produce test procedures, inspection procedures, engineering reports, assembly instructions, and design documentation

  • Collaborate with electrical, software, imaging, manufacturing, and product teams to deliver integrated systems

  • Support design transfer from prototype through production and provide sustaining engineering support

  • Work with suppliers and fabricators to resolve mechanical, quality, and production issues

AI-Enabled Engineering

KA Imaging encourages engineers to use modern AI tools as a productivity multiplier while keeping sound engineering judgment, verification, and design control. You should be comfortable exploring and applying AI-assisted workflows to:

  • Accelerate SolidWorks design and iteration, including macros, scripts, or API-based automation

  • Generate and refine design concepts and mechanical architectures

  • Automate repetitive CAD, drawing, BOM, and documentation tasks

  • Support tolerance analysis, design reviews, and DFM/DFA

  • Research materials, components, manufacturing processes, and design alternatives

  • Analyze test results and identify design improvements

  • Produce engineering documentation, test plans, and reports more efficiently

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant mechanical design and product development experience

  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings) and working knowledge of GD&T

  • Practical understanding of mechanical design and the product development lifecycle, from requirements through production

  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, mechanical assembly, laboratory testing, hardware troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis

  • Experience with incoming inspection of machined, sheet-metal, and molded parts, including use of measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM or similar) and non-conformance and supplier corrective-action processes

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and additive manufacturing, with knowledge of DFM/DFA principles

  • Clear communication of designs through drawings, documentation, and technical discussion

  • Strong time management and comfort in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary environment

ASSETS

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

  • SolidWorks API, macros, Python, or other engineering automation; SolidWorks PDM

  • AI-assisted CAD or engineering workflows; generative design or topology optimization

  • FEA, thermal, or other mechanical simulation

  • Ruggedized or portable electronic equipment; design for environmental, drop, vibration, or ingress-protection requirements

  • Medical devices, imaging detectors, defence systems, robotics, or industrial equipment

  • Low- to medium-volume manufacturing and supplier management

  • ISO 13485 or other regulated product-development environments; regulatory compliance and certification

  • Design for quality, reliability, usability, and human factors

To be considered, please present a portfolio or examples of design work, personal and/or professional, showing clear thinking, good problem solving, and outstanding execution**.**
