About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and technically proficient Mechanical Estimation Engineer to join our MEP contracting team in Abu Dhabi.
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications and equipment schedules, carrying out mechanical quantity take-offs, obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations, and preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical works in building construction projects.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in Mechanical Estimation and Tendering within an MEP contracting environment, with a strong understanding of HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting systems and applicable authority requirements, codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Review tender specifications, drawings, equipment schedules, BOQs and other tender documents to understand the mechanical scope.
• Prepare and review mechanical scope of work, inclusions, exclusions and responsibility matrices.
• Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from drawings and tender documents and prepare measured quantities for mechanical works.
• Obtain, evaluate and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for mechanical materials, equipment and specialist systems.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, equipment, labour, testing and commissioning, engineering, third-party inspections and other applicable costs.
• Prepare and finalize Mechanical BOQs and tender pricing in accordance with company procedures.
• Review tender documents to identify discrepancies, missing information, design gaps and technical clarifications.
• Prepare and coordinate technical clarification requests related to mechanical scope and specifications.
• Maintain and update mechanical cost databases, including material prices, labour rates and man-hour requirements.
• Ensure applicable authority requirements, codes, standards and project specifications are considered when preparing estimates.
• Review mechanical scope, quantities, quotations and pricing with the Estimation Manager/Engineer to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
• Consider applicable indirect costs, risks and margins in tender pricing as directed by management.
• Maintain accurate records of tender documents, quotations, quantity take-offs, assumptions and pricing information.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Estimation and Tendering, preferably within an MEP or Electro-Mechanical contracting company.
• Good knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting and other mechanical systems used in building projects.
• Strong experience in BOQ preparation, quantity take-offs, cost estimation and tender pricing.
• Experience obtaining, evaluating and negotiating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and tender documents.
• Good understanding of applicable UAE authority requirements, codes and standards relevant to mechanical works.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and estimation/quantity take-off software such as PlanSwift is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, numerical and communication skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
