Our client is seeking a full-stack software developer to design, develop, and deploy decision-support systems that improve transportation planning, network performance, operational efficiency, and service reliability across the railroad network. The role requires expertise in operations research, transportation analytics, software development, and data visualization. The professional will translate complex business challenges into scalable analytical solutions and work across the full project lifecycle from requirements gathering and model development to deployment and production support. Candidates should have strong technical skills, railroad domain knowledge, and experience delivering enterprise applications using Java and modern web technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement web-based transportation planning and decision-support systems.

  • Develop analytical solutions that support network planning, service design, operational performance, and disruption management initiatives.

  • Create intuitive user interfaces and data visualization tools that enable effective decision-making.

  • Design and maintain ETL processes and integrated data repositories to support analytical applications.

  • Provide production support, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of existing operations research applications.

  • Collaborate with business partners, railroad operations teams, and software developers to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.

  • Support application testing, deployment, and implementation activities.

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of full-stack developer experience following software development best practices, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance of production applications.

  • Experience developing and implementing decision-support systems utilizing operations research methodologies.

  • Experience developing enterprise applications using Java-based technologies.

  • Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies.

  • Experience designing and developing complex, data-driven user interfaces and visualization solutions.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of railroad operations, transportation planning, and network design principles.

  • Strong software development experience with Java, Python, and related technologies.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript, React, HTML5, and CSS for modern web application development.

  • Proficiency with Linux/UNIX operating systems and development environments.

  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.

  • Environment: Hybrid. Shift Work: No. On-Call: Yes. Weekend Work: As required. Travel Required: Approximately one week per year.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Information Systems, or other related quantitative disciplines.
