Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team in Newcastle, New South Wales. This permanent, full-time position is pivotal in leading innovative electrical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving technical excellence. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing our engineering capabilities and delivering high-quality solutions that meet client needs.
Responsibilities:

Lead LV/HV electrical design, including substations, switchgear, transformers, overhead lines, and underground cable systems.

Develop and review single-line diagrams, substation layouts, primary equipment specifications, electrical clearances, cable sizing, earthing, and lightning protection.

Undertake and review load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash studies, translating findings into practical design solutions.

Coordinate protection and control interfaces, utility requirements, and civil, structural, and geotechnical design inputs.

Review and verify technical work, mentor engineers, and manage project scope, budgets, and client relationships.

Contribute to technical proposals and NSW business growth.
About you:

Degree in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience.

Strong LV/HV and substation design capability, including equipment selection, layouts, and design documentation.

Experience delivering power system studies using ETAP, SKM Power*Tools (PTW), or equivalent software.
-
Proven technical leadership, commercial awareness, and client management skills.

CPEng and/or NER credentials, or eligibility.
Highly regarded:
-
Substation design experience up to275 kV, including primary plant arrangements, insulation coordination, electrical clearances, and protection interfaces.

Overhead transmission line design experience, including route assessment, conductor selection, clearances, and coordination of tower or pole and foundation design.

Experience with network service provider requirements and design approvals.

Specialist power studies capability and RPEQ registration.
