Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Product Manager - Billing based in United States.

This is a principal-level product leadership role focused on shaping the strategy and roadmap for complex insurance billing capabilities. You will own products spanning invoicing, payments, collections, commissions, disbursements, reconciliation, and automation. The role combines deep insurance and financial-services knowledge with strong product management, analytical, and strategic decision-making skills. You will translate billing practices, regulatory requirements, financial controls, and customer needs into scalable and governed product capabilities. Working closely with Engineering, Architecture, Data, Finance, and customers, you will help deliver explainable, compliant, and efficient billing experiences. This is a high-autonomy individual contributor position with significant influence over product direction and the opportunity to shape AI-enabled decision-support capabilities.

Accountabilities:

  • Define and own the product strategy and roadmap for the billing domain, covering invoicing, payment processing, commissions, collections, disbursements, reconciliation, and automation capabilities.

  • Operate as the general manager for the product area, taking ownership of strategy, execution, prioritization, and financial outcomes while operating within established product governance frameworks.

  • Translate insurer billing practices, payment preferences, financial controls, regulatory requirements, and customer needs into clear, prioritized product capabilities and measurable outcomes.

  • Lead product discovery for complex billing, payment, and financial-operations challenges, partnering closely with customers and internal stakeholders to identify problems and develop scalable solutions.

  • Serve as the primary product steward for billing and finance personas, ensuring workflows reflect real-world operational constraints, customer obligations, servicing requirements, and business needs.

  • Provide product leadership for AI-enabled and application-level decision-support capabilities that can improve payment optimization, collections prioritization, anomaly detection, and exception handling within appropriate controls.

  • Partner with data science and analytics teams to incorporate models, scores, and insights into billing workflows in ways that are explainable, trusted, and operationally useful.

  • Translate billing rules, payment-plan structures, commission logic, and reconciliation requirements into configurable and scalable capabilities while maintaining an appropriate balance between automation and human oversight.

  • Guide the adoption of straight-through processing while ensuring transparency, effective exception management, and clearly defined escalation paths.

  • Ensure billing workflows, financial transactions, and product recommendations are auditable, compliant, and aligned with applicable internal and external governance requirements.

  • Partner with Engineering and Architecture to ensure billing products are technically sound, scalable, secure, and aligned with broader platform standards.

  • Collaborate with Product Marketing, Sales, Finance, Professional Services, and other stakeholders to support value articulation, enablement, customer engagement, and consistent product positioning.

  • Exercise strong judgment and proactively identify risks, trade-offs, dependencies, and opportunities while making clear recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.

Requirements:

  • Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree, or have equivalent relevant experience, combined with at least 7 years of product management experience in SaaS, enterprise software, or comparable technology environments.

  • Demonstrate experience owning complex workflow-driven or decision-centric product domains, ideally involving financial transactions or highly regulated business processes.

  • Bring experience designing, building, or integrating sub-ledger or General Ledger solutions within insurance or financial-services environments.

  • Possess a deep understanding of P&C insurance billing operations, including invoicing, payment processing, collections, commissions, disbursements, reconciliation, and relevant regulatory and compliance requirements; hands-on experience with billing systems is strongly preferred.

  • Have experience delivering configurable, transaction-centric platforms that incorporate rules-driven, AI-enabled, or model-informed workflows while translating customer requirements, regulatory constraints, financial controls, and analytical outputs into governed product decisions.

  • Demonstrate strong product management fundamentals, including the ability to decompose complex problems into structured capabilities and prioritize initiatives using value, risk, effort, and strategic impact trade-offs.

  • Be comfortable working within agile and iterative delivery models and managing ambiguity and shifting priorities while maintaining execution discipline.

  • Demonstrate the ability to partner effectively with Engineering, Data, Architecture, Finance, and business leaders, communicating complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Exercise significant autonomy and sound judgment within defined strategic and governance frameworks, proactively surfacing risks, dependencies, and trade-offs with actionable recommendations.

  • Possess strong organizational discipline, professional documentation practices, and a consistent focus on decision rationale, accountability, and measurable outcomes.

  • Be able to operate effectively in complex environments where multiple priorities and stakeholders must be coordinated simultaneously.

  • Be legally authorized to work in the country of the job location, as visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Be willing to travel up to 20% as required.

Benefits:

  • U.S. base salary ranging from $137,800 to $245,500 USD , depending on geographic location, with higher ranges applying to designated metropolitan areas.

  • For U.S. locations, salary ranges include $171,900–$245,500 for Boston, New York City–Newark, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle, and Washington, DC; $163,700–$233,900 for Chicago, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Vermont; $155,600–$222,300 for Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Wisconsin; and $137,800–$215,400 for other U.S. locations.

  • For Canada-based employees, the stated salary range is $135,000–$185,000 CAD .

  • Eligibility for annual bonus compensation, subject to applicable plan terms and individual eligibility.

  • Flexible work environment designed to support productivity, collaboration, and work-life flexibility.

  • 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match of up to 6% , capped at $12,000 annually.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.
