Job description

Company Overview

Sarmal, Inc. is a San Diego–based biotechnology company developing next-generation genomics and molecular detection platforms. Our work integrates molecular biology, chemistry, and advanced systems engineering to enable faster, more precise, and more accessible genomic insights.

We are a highly collaborative, R&D-driven team operating in a fast-paced, early-stage environment. Our scientists and engineers work across disciplines to solve complex technical challenges and translate innovation into scalable, real-world applications.

At Sarmal, we value scientific rigor, curiosity, and a builder mindset. We are looking for individuals who are energized by ambiguity, motivated by impact, and excited to help bring breakthrough technologies from concept to reality.

About The Job

We are seeking a

Product Manager with product marketing experience to own the product strategy and

commercialization of our target detection platform. This is a hybrid product-and-marketing role: you will

translate customer and clinical insight into product requirements and roadmap, build the business case

and competitive positioning, and drive go-to-market strategy, launch, and post-launch performance.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded product leader who is equally comfortable defining a

product from the inside — partnering with engineering, assay, integration, regulatory, and software

teams — and bringing it to market in regulated diagnostic environments spanning our RUO, LDT, and

IVD development phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for Sarmal’s target detection platform, translating Voic of Customer (VOC) from clinicians, laboratory directors, and key opinion leaders into clearly prioritized, well-defined product requirements

  • Partner with engineering, assay development, integration, software, regulatory, and operations teams to balance clinical value, technical feasibility, and time-to-market across the platform’s RUO, LDT, and IVD development phases

  • Develop product positioning, messaging, and value propositions tailored to clinical, laboratory, and economic buyers, including health-economic and clinical-utility narratives that differentiate against blood culture-based and competing molecular methods

  • Build business cases and financial models — including market sizing, segmentation, and ROI — to support investment, prioritization, and executive go/no-go decisions

  • Conduct competitive analyses and market landscaping across sepsis, pathogen identification, and AMR detection to identify differentiation, threats, and white-space opportunities

  • Drive go-to-market (GTM) strategy in partnership with commercial, sales, and marketing leadership, including pricing, channel, and launch-readiness planning

  • Lead product launches end-to-end — sales enablement, collateral, training, and KOL engagement — and own post-launch activities including adoption tracking, customer feedback loops, and performance against commercial targets

  • Collaborate with regulatory and quality teams to ensure product requirements and commercial materials are accurate, compliant, and appropriate for a regulated diagnostics environment

  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert and voice of the customer for the platform, its clinical workflows, and the problems it solves

  • Define and track product and commercial success metrics, using data to inform roadmap prioritization and trade-offs

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated product management and/or product marketing experience in diagnostics, life sciences, or medical devices, with a track record of bringing products from concept through commercialization

  • Hands-on experience developing IVD and Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs), including familiarity with the requirements they impose on product and commercial activities

  • Proven ability to translate Voice of Customer and clinical insight into prioritized, actionable product requirements

  • Track record building business cases, financial models, and competitive analyses to inform executive decision-making

  • Experience defining and executing go-to-market strategy, including product positioning, messaging, and value proposition development

  • Demonstrated success leading product launches and managing post-launch adoption and performance

  • Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence across R&D, regulatory, clinical, commercial, and executive stakeholders

  • Self-directed and ownership-oriented, comfortable operating with significant autonomy in an early-stage environment where requirements evolve

  • Direct experience in molecular diagnostics, ideally in sepsis and/or pathogen identification, is preferred

  • Familiarity with the clinical microbiology and infectious disease testing landscape, workflows, and buyer dynamics is preferred

  • Experience developing clinical-utility content, health-economic/ROI models, and KOL and clinical- evidence strategy is preferred

  • Experience at an early-stage or scaling diagnostics company, balancing near-term commercial delivery against long-term platform strategy, is preferred

Benefits & Perks

Sarmal offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Company-paid life insurance

  • 401(k) retirement plan

  • Generous paid time off

  • Access to additional voluntary benefits, employee perks, and discount programs

  • We are committed to supporting the well-being of our employees and providing a strong foundation for both professional and personal success.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biomedical engineering, business, or a closely related discipline,

with 8+ years of relevant product management and/or product marketing experience in

diagnostics or life sciences. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred. An equivalent combination

of education and directly applicable industry experience will also be considered.

$150,000 - $205,000 a year

California Pay Transparency Statement.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $150,000 – $205,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skill set, and internal equity considerations.
