Job description

Role Description

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing construction costs, preparing cost estimates, evaluating project quantities, and supporting financial control throughout the project lifecycle. This role involves analyzing construction drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation to determine material quantities, estimate costs, and ensure that project expenditure aligns with approved budgets and contractual requirements.

Key responsibilities include preparing bills of quantities, cost estimates, material take-offs, and budget breakdowns for construction and engineering projects. The Quantity Surveyor reviews architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to calculate quantities of materials, labor, equipment, and other resources required for project execution. The role also involves evaluating supplier quotations, comparing pricing proposals, and preparing cost reports to support procurement and financial planning.

The position requires coordinating with project managers, engineers, architects, contractors, and procurement teams to clarify project specifications, review scope changes, and assess their financial implications. The Quantity Surveyor assists with tender preparation, bid evaluation, contract documentation, and the assessment of commercial proposals to support informed project decisions.

Additional responsibilities include monitoring project costs, reviewing progress claims, evaluating variations, and preparing interim payment assessments. The Quantity Surveyor maintains accurate records of project expenditure, contractual obligations, and cost adjustments while identifying potential cost overruns and recommending practical cost-control measures. The role also supports the review of invoices, subcontractor claims, and supporting documentation to ensure consistency with contractual terms and completed work.

The Quantity Surveyor contributes to financial reporting and project closeout activities by preparing final accounts, reconciling project costs, and documenting approved variations and outstanding payments. The position requires a systematic approach to cost management, strong analytical capabilities, and effective communication to ensure that commercial matters are handled accurately and efficiently.
