**THE COMPANY:**Discovery Capital is a privately owned design-build and property management firm based in Columbia, Missouri. For more than 20 years, we have fulfilled community needs by building a diverse commercial and residential real estate portfolio across the Midwest. Over the years, our portfolio has grown to include hotels, restaurants, mixed-use and market-rate communities, in addition to commercial and retail spaces. We remain focused on our plans for growth and currently have several exciting projects under construction and in queue!
COMPENSATION RANGE: Base salary range of $100,000–$120,000 based upon applicable work experience
REAL ESTATE ACCOUNTANT POSITION:
We are looking for a Real Estate Accountant that can adapt and wear multiple hats within our Accounting Team. This position will handle the full-cycle accounting process for a group of diverse entities and partake in the financial analysis of our business operations. The Real Estate Accountant oversees the monthly close and financial reporting for a group of separate but affiliated companies operating in real estate (approximately 1,000 residential units and a commercial portfolio).
REAL ESTATE ACCOUNTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full cycle accounting for assigned entities, including financial statement preparation

Month-end close and financial reporting

Review balance sheet by property and by entity, including clearing accounts, due to/from accounts, security deposits, payments in transit, etc.

Review income statements current month against prior month

Review and approve adjusting journal entries, fixed asset activity, and depreciation

Prepare consolidated financial statements after individual entity review is complete

Cash & Banking

Review bank reconciliations across all entities and maintain the tracker showing who reconciles which account and what remains open

Oversee daily cash movement between entities and zero balance account activity

Reconcile general ledger debt balances, accrued interest, and escrow balances against the loan schedule to ensure accuracy

Compliance & Other Accounting

Oversee sales and use tax filings across entities and confirm they are filed accurately and on time

Oversee intercompany invoicing and reimbursement billing between entities

Review the payroll general ledger export and resolve allocation and mapping issues between the payroll system and the general ledger

Review accounts payable weekly to stay current on spending activity

Coordinate with the outside CPA firm on year-end reporting and tax information requests

Systems
- Serve as the QuickBooks Online administrator for user access, permissions, and chart of accounts changes
REAL ESTATE ACCOUNTANT REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience required

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including monthly close and financial statement preparation for multiple legal entities

Experience with consolidations and intercompany accounting

Proficient in Quickbooks Online

Excellent organizational skills and analytical abilities

Ability to work well in a collaborative environment
