Rust Software Engineer
Location: Reston, VA
Security Clearance: SECRET
We’re looking for a mid-level Rust Software Engineer to build and optimize high-performance software supporting simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission-focused environments.
You’ll work in a large, production Rust codebase alongside researchers and engineers, turning complex algorithms and research into reliable, performant software. The role spans backend services, databases, frontend applications, and supporting infrastructure, making it a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems and seeing research become operational capability.
What You’ll Do

Develop and maintain production software in a large Rust codebase

Design and optimize performance-sensitive algorithms and computational workloads

Build backend services using technologies such as Axum and Tokio

Integrate software with databases, frontend applications, APIs, and infrastructure

Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users to translate complex technical concepts into practical software

Help evolve research-driven capabilities into scalable, maintainable production systems
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field

3+ years of professional software engineering experience

Strong experience developing production-grade, performance-sensitive software in Rust

Experience developing backend services with Axum or similar frameworks

Experience with asynchronous programming, preferably using Tokio

Strong software engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills

Experience working across the software stack, including familiarity with web application development

Ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, and end users

U.S. citizenship required

ACTIVE SECRET Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications

ACTIVE TS/SCI CLEARANCE

Experience with Java, Python, TypeScript, and/or React

Experience developing highly optimized parallel or concurrent software

Experience with GPU programming or acceleration

Background working on simulation, optimization, scientific computing, or other computationally intensive applications
