Job Summary

CommonBond is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join their accounting team. This person will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close processes, and supporting the preparation of financial reports. Key responsibilities include reconciling accounts, ensuring correct eliminations for affiliated entities and assisting with audits. This person will also play a vital role in ensuring compliance with financial regulations and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (the % should be listed for 3-5 major key areas of responsibility)

Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Ensure accounting methods are under GAAP and that governmental reporting requirements are followed accurately

  • Maintain general ledger accuracy, including journal entries, allocations, intercompany reconciliations, working capital, real estate transactions and eliminations.

  • Ensure proper documentation and backup for all journal entries

  • Investigate budget variances in the financial statements

  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations utilizing Yardi automated functionality

  • Execute recurring journal entries, manage proper backup documentation, and reconcile general ledger and corporate accounts

  • Act as a resource for senior management during budget preparation

  • Prepare audit schedules at fiscal year-end

  • Assist in audit consolidation and elimination of affiliated entities

  • Coordinate the completion of special accounting projects for management

  • Process monthly expense uploads with precise account coding

  • Maintain debt schedules and supporting schedules for assets, liabilities, and depreciation

  • Prepare and complete quarterly sales and use tax reporting

Manage real estate transaction accounting

  • Maintain and manage working capital schedules

  • Prepare journal entries for real estate transactions, including sales, refinances and dispositions

  • Maintain and manage development fees

Assist Senior Treasury Manager with treasury activities

  • Processing transfers between accounts

  • Corporate check requests

Develop and Implement corporate accounting policies and processes

  • Define and comply with all established internal control procedures

  • Maintain a current and accurate operations manual for corporate accounting, including drafting and revising policies and procedures as necessary

  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with internal departments, staff, vendors and outside agencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP

  • Strong understanding of corporate accounting principles, including consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and financial reporting

  • Proficiency in financial analysis and forecasting with the ability to interpret complex data

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders

  • Advanced Excel sills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Education and Other Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required.

  • 5+ years of experience with all aspects of accrual accounting through financial statements and audit preparation

  • Experience with grant accounting (federal, state, local, philanthropic)

  • Budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling experience preferred

  • Ability to maintain tight and effective internal control procedures

  • Possess a high level of accuracy and detail orientation

  • Demonstrated experience working within diverse communities, which include people of various ages, genders, sexual orientations, national origins, income levels, ability levels, religious affiliations, races, and languages

  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally

  • Excellent customer service, organization, and both written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple duties while adhering to established deadlines

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in Non-Profit

  • Experience with Yardi (ERP system)

  • Experience in property accounting or real estate accounting

  • Experience in Public Accounting

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license
